Default Secondary intake sound question and other questions

New to the forum - acquired a 2012 IS F last year to complement the other cars I have as I needed to fill a V8 void - it was so tough to choose between the IS F and the E90/92 M3!!!!!

- I installed PPE headers about 2 months ago - I noticed there is no more sound coming from the secondary intake - the one that comes on at 3500 rpm - is this normal with just headers? anyone experienced that?

-Also looking to get PPE valved exhaust next summer - will I get any drone with the PPE headers I have (whether valve is open or closed)?

- is it worth it to get the RR Racing intake and tune after I do the exhaust? I read some issues with that on this forum with some members - I usually don't trust any tuning whatsoever - but the only exception I made was my E46 M3 with the Frank Smith tune as he was beyond reputable and so many M3 owners had their tunes for years with no issues at all - and it also completely transformed the car - not sure about tuning the IS F - your feedback is appreciated and sorry about all these questions

The intake sound should still be there. Maybe you can't hear it due to the added sound from the headers.

Your second question - depends - Depends on whether you have equal length or non equal length headers. See this thread:

Oh, and a BIG WELCOME to the forum. Lot's of GREAT information here

Thank you

They are the unequal length

No - actually I can’t hear the intake noise at all now - I really paid attention many times but there is nothing

^^^^The flap is controlled by engine vacuum. As I recall, when the engine is off the flap is open. Can you have someone rev it up while at idle with the hood open and you standing near the intake box?

Flowrider is correct. Garantee it's still there, just can't hear it due to the extra noise. I experienced the same thing when I did headers (sikkyV2). . Won't completely go away til you do the RR racing tune and tuned intake.

maybe the plug was disconnected for the intake (during the header install) preventing the door from opening

^^^^The flap is vacuum actuated. When there is no vacuum, the flap is open by default.

yes but that vacuum is also connected to a solenoid that’s looks to bleed the vacuum as needed.

Either the exhaust it too loud now and you can't hear it, or the solenoid is disconnected.
