Default RR RACING ECU upgrade alone

Hi all, is it worth to do RR ECU upgrade alone with no hardware mods? What kind of gain one can get?. Thanks.

If you're on a budget gut the cats and you'll have better gains

Just tossing an option out there, but the OEM cats are very valuable to scrappers, so you can sell them and buy headers, which will by far net you the best power gains. The oem headers are pretty restrictive, and prone to crack. I did not have the tune with no other mods, so I can’t speak to it.

personally i'd skip the tune and get an exhaust for the sound alone. tune with no mods sounds like a giant waste of money when a tune is supposed to support additional mods in the first place.

As others have also stated, go exhaust first over the tune.

I noticed a difference with the tune with just a catback on the car. Back when the cheapest exhaust (Borla) was $1200 and the tune was $700, it was possible to say the tune is worth it over the exhaust, since the tune is good for maybe 10whp, and the exhaust for maybe 15-20whp. That one youtube guy did a dyno before and after with just an Xforce and it showed 7-10whp max or so, but even more in the midrange, which is the main reason to get it.
CA cats are the priciest so gutting them would be a waste iMO.

If you're ok with the smell, +1 for buying headers and selling your oem cats.. It'll sound pretty good with OEM exhaust too. I wouldn't gut them nowadays with today's prices on used primaries.

Hi,

We typically see 12-15whp gains on the IS F with just a tune.

Our tune also raises the speed limiter, increases the rev limiter to 7,200 and also enhances the throttle mapping to the maximum allowed by the ECU. Makes the car more responsive and lively in my opinion.

Plus, our software is optimized and will set you up for further modifications. Ultimately, Tune and Headers are the best bang-for-your-buck for the IS F (short of our Supercharger) with gains upwards of 45whp.

Please give us a shout with any other questions and check out the link below for dyno charts and more info.
