Red face Replacing starter during PPE Header Install?? HALLLLP!

Hey guys waiting on My PPE headers to come in. The headers are ceramic coated and will be using fire wrap from DEI to cover my Primary O2 senor wires and extenders to ensure that they wont fry being up around the header. However, I have heard while i am doing the PPE header replacement that it would be wise to do motor mounts at the same time so I went ahead and orders all new OEM motor mounts to replace at the time of install. I did also see some members were recommend replacing the starter as well do you think this would be necessary if Im not having any issues. At 92k miles am I jumping the gun to early or is that a sufficient amount of miles to justify replacing it early to save me in labor down the road? Any insite would be amazing. CHEERS!

You have to ask yourself are IS starter failures a real concern? My understanding is Tundra starters are a PITA to replace but I have no inclination to replace it.

The starter is located on the passenger side right under the header i believe. I did my headers at 75-80k miles and did the starter while I was there (along with motor mounts).

If you're willing to pay the labor again to have the starter replaced when it eventually fails, then you can wait. But I believe the passenger side header has to be removed to replace the starter.

I did my own header install so money wasn’t a concern. I decided initially why bother since I have no problems well 6 months down the road it almost left me stranded almost 4 hours away from home. I ended up doing half a header install all over again on my back….my advice just do it and save yourself the time and hassle. I ordered mine on rockauto (denso) which was WAY cheaper then what dealerships want for the part.

My starter on my 2008 IS-F died right around 10yr 100k miles

I wish I had replaced it when I replaced the headers

Ideally, if I could go back in time, I'd do headers, starter, and motor mounts at the same time. I just did the motor mounts and headers at the time.

Mine died at home when I installed the Antigravity battery. Pure coincidence, but definitely something you should address at the same time you're doing headers. I bought the Denso unit from RockAuto too.

You can go cheap if you want - the only part that fails is the solenoid, and you can get one for ~$65. I have one sitting on the shelf with all the requiste wiring covers for when this happens to the wife's GS F. My IS F went a very long time before it failed, I was well over 170k miles.

Starter on my 2008 IS-F died 2 weeks ago in my driveway at 95K miles. Bought a replacement starter on Rockauto and had a Toyota dealer replace it and do a weld repair on the passenger side exhaust manifold.

FWIW, I had my motor mounts (PPE) and starter replaced when I had a local shop installed my PPE Headers. I was at 135k at the time, and the math made sense to do all of them at the same time.

@ISFpowered Damn brother that's horrible im so sorry that happen to you. I pulled the trigger on the starter yesterday got OEM Lexus one for 250 shipped to my door. I checked Rock Auto first but they didn't seem to have the denso one in stock so i definitely would not go aftermarket especially on components as important as this so thanks so much for your input going to be doing headers, all motor mounts, starter and even will be using fire sleeve on the 02 primary sensor/ 02 primary extenders that come with the headers to ensure nothing gets fried up. Also, opted to get the headers ceramic coated so that should help immensely with the heat as well. Can't wait to get everything squared away so I can really start enjoying her!
