Red face Fire sleeve 02 sensors during PPE header install??

Hey guys so I'm just about fully prepared to begin my PPE header install .. They should be coming in any week now. During install i will be updating the following...

- All new OEM Lexus Motor mounts
- All new OEM exhaust manifold gaskets
- New Denso OEM primary 02 sensors
- New Denso OEM Starter

I have recently purchase a 3ft roll of (1") Fire sleeve from DEI .. The technical support line at DEI told me that the 1 inch diameter roll would probably be best but seems like there is quite a bit of space compared to the diameter of the 02 sensor wire however the actual plug at the end of the wire that will be attached to the 02 sensor extender provided by PPE fits almost perfectly. Im curious if anyone has had any experience with using fire sleeve. Just wondering if i should go one size lower maybe 5/8's to shrink the gap a little bit between the wire and the sleeve or do you think i should be going off what size if most accommodating to the actual plug itself? They did tell me you do want a little bit of space in there so the sleeve can insulate properly but curious if anyone has had this same issue or concern. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would also recommend getting a new starter harness cover. The one on your car is going to crumble the moment your mechanic (or yourself) looks at it.

Part number is 82821-30730

I used the PPE aluminum sleeves, they work just fine. 3 yrs no problems.

@ALexusF Good call especially for the price it's sort of a no brainer. Thanks so much for the info!

@ALexusF went ahead and brought not only the cover but even the plastic housing. My parts guys mentioned they usually become quite brittle over time from the heat so for the price you can't beat it here are the parts numbers for future reference if any one else ever chooses to go the extra mile when installing the new starter.

Part Number Part Name Price Quantity Total

- (90980-11400) Housing, Connector F $6.51

- (82821-30730) Cover, Connector $12.95

My connector F shattered in my fingers when I went to remove it. It sure made replacing it easy.

@lobuxracer Yeah i want to make sure im fully prepared going into this install so I don't get held up with anything. For the price it's better to be safe than sorry. can't wait for my car to stop sounding like a lawn mower on cold start/ acceleration my headers are indeed ****ed.

I used two layers of fire sleeves along with using high temp Teflon insulated wiring when I made my O2 sensor extensions. Wrapped with Teflon tape, smaller sleeve over that and the bigger sleeve over the small sleeve and the connectors. Probably overkill

@ JT2MA71 that sounds like they will hold up against liquid hot magma my dude hahahah!!! I been trying to get just the right size fire sleeve. i originally got 1 inch but it seemed a little too large of a gap compared to the diameter of the 02 sensor wires so i sent those back and now waiting for the 5/8 size to come in which i think will be perfect. According to the guys at DEI in order for the fire sleeve to be most effective, they say it is required to have a little bit of free space between the wires and the sleeve otherwise it could have the opposite effect. Have you experienced any issues?

The space between the wires & sleeve is the same tech as in your home, down jacket, insulation etc. Loft is important to trap the air.

Probably the sensor will fail before the protection does.
