Default Infotainment inoperable

On Sunday the screen on my 2013 all of a sudden froze (BT music still playing) and I couldn't switch to any other screen (climate, map, info, etc). Shut the car off, restarted and it froze on the "Caution/warning" screen. Decided to pull the battery for 20min and when I reconnected, the screen no longer shows the Lexus and "enform" splash screens at start up. It stays black, then turns on with the message "Checking for map data in progress, please wait" and then it ultimately changes to "Program could not be read. Please consult to a dealer"

So now I have no audio, climate controls, rear cam, etc. The screen turns on fine as do all the buttons around it but it's like the software is corrupt since nothing boots up anymore. Screen worked perfectly fine before as well. I'm guessing the internal HDD went bad.

Anyone with the HDD based nav systems (2010-2014) ever have this issue? What was the fix?

seems as though you are correct the hard drive is bad. if you hold the info button and flip the lights on and off 3 times it will take you do the diagnostics screen may help diagnose.

This didn't work unfortunately. Reaffirms my assumption of bad HDD, would need some software to run this screen.

Guess I'll give it a ($1500) shot.

That's a lot for the stock experience again......have you looked into aftermarket options such as these links below:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...eadunit-3.html

https://phoenixautomotiveinc.com/pro...113402#reviews

Eventually I might try the Phoenix Automotive product because I like the style and what it does for the interior, although it's not for everyone as some prefer the stock/unit look, something to think about.

Tell me about it.

I did look into the Tesla style and a few other android powered ones for the 250/350 on ebay/Alibaba/amazon as well. Utlimately, the finish and fitment are not ideal and I'm crazy about little things like that.

The Tesla style one looks like it fits the best but the bezel is not black and would bother me. They also come with their fair share of quirks, I had a Tesla style Phoenix Automotive one in my prior Q50 and got rid of it since it was so glitchy. Went back to the stock + Android auto interface so didn't want to relive that with the ISF again.

Honestly wish I could just scrap the stock and just go with a nice Pioneer double DIN. Not many options for this car unfortunately.

Makes sense...unfortunately like you said there are not many options for this car especially if you want the stock look😑

There were a few threads in different lexus models I read before on trying to duplicate the hdd but it's encrypted. I was thinking about cloning my hdd to an ssd but after reading about the encryption I don't think I'm computer savvy enough to do that.

But if it is your hard drive that failed I think it can be replaced and the software reinstalled at the dealer. I'm not 100% sure and the navigation tool is probably dealer only.

Attached is the process of installing the software. I can't find anything on replacing the hard drive my guess is if they ever had a problem in warranty they replaced the whole infotainment unit.

Yeah, the tool is stupid expensive if you're only doing your car. It's a dealer only thing for sure. I was always pretty skeptical of the whole spinning disc drive in a car anyway. They should have been SSDs for sure.

Yeah I read through a bunch of threads on the LS forums and it seems impossible to clone the HDD. Looks like the entire operating system is on the HDD as well, not just the maps so you can't just buy any 2.5" drive either, have to get the OEM one as they come loaded with everything. Based on a Gen6/7 HDD replacement tsb I found, looks like the first time it's powered up, it pairs to the head unit and can't be used anywhere else afterwards. Probably why no one had successfully cloned it. Luckily the 13/14 have a Gen 7 unit so the maps can be updated without the tool required for the Gen6.

I have one ordered, hopefully gets there this weekend. I'll pop it in and we'll see, fingers crossed!

Send a message to forum user "whitebeast" , he may be able to help

I went to his house and he disabled my DRL, while I was there he was working/fixing a car with a very similar issue to yours...

Got the new OEM HDD today. Swapped it in and followed the TSB to reboot. Everything came back. Happy it's fixed. Not happy about the cost but is what it is.

Also in the event anyone has a 13/14 with the same issue, the HDD part number is 86271-30681. It's a 2.5" 100gb Toshiba drive. Pic of the old HDD:

Thanks for the update. The price on those HDDs are pretty steep.

You mind also sharing the tsb number or file for future reference?

Looks like it's a "Tech Tip" not a TSB, my bad. It's very straight forward. Here's link I found it at:
