Default Open tracking the IS-F

I am looking at the IS-F and was interested of anyone on the board open tracks the F. I have done open tracking with a Mustang and have been to many events and have never saw an F at one. I am from Minnesota and have run at B.I.R., Road America, Gingerman, MAM and others. Lew

There have been a few but not many that do it regularly and post about it beyond the short Lexus Driving Schools which are pretty controlled. I've seen one at our local track CMP (Carolina Motorsports Park) and one at VIR during a magazine test. The guy at CMP joined our forum.

I'm not sure I ever uploaded and posted pictures from the one at CMP - I'll do that. Might even have some video (have to say I *think* my wife passed him in her E36 M3 but it's a purpose-built stripped and setup track car). We usually run at VIR, CMP, Roebling Road and Road Atlanta.

Hope to see more out there!

Default E36 Purpose Built

Dave,

Not surprised that the E36 stripped would out perform the ISF on a closed track. What does the E36 weight? About 3,000 pounds or less? MSR here in Houston have several track cars that they rent out. They have several '99 E36 that are totally stripped with roll cages and Hoosier Racing Slicks. Pretty quick.

Just as the subject says. Besides the Lexus sponsored stuff, has anybody actually taken their IS-Fs to a track (not drag strip) to see how it does?

Forgot about this thread - yeah, about 3k (she's been stripping more out of it this winter so will be a bit less now).

I just looked up a few pics of the IS-F owner that was at that event and uploaded them.

He also took it out on the skidpad (I didn't know or would have gone to get some shots)

The IS-F was a beast down the straight and sounded awesome. Handling was surprisingly flat for a bone stock car. Owner said the Lexus did excellent, braking was incredible.

The IS-F owner had a dedicated Mazda track car as well (I think this was his and his buddy had the 6, both full track prep and painted)

Default What offset should I run at MSR?

Just bought some 9 1/2" wide wheels and drag radials for my ISF. Would like to use the same wheels @ MSR in Houston with Hoosier racing tires. I can get 8 1/2" wheels for the front or 9 1/2" that match the rear. Should I run an offset like the standard set-up or should I run the same size tires front and rear for best handling. Have been to Lexus Driving Academy (small taste of track time) now ready to hit the track.

HoustonT,

I'll probably sign up for the MSR track day portion of your Texas2k9.

A group of a dozen is-f owners (including me) did a half day at Msr Houston a few months ago. I hope to check out the TX2K9 events too! See you at Tan Tan Peter.

I admire you guys who take this car to the track. My relative has a built BMW E30 which he tracks, and he tells me that the car just gets destroyed on the track every time he goes because of all the wear/tear plus the rocks/pebbles. He told me to just get a cheap car and build it up if I want to track a car instead of ruining the F.. ha ha

Default Stagger for Track

Peter,

Since you run you Supra at MSR what is your advice about staggering the size of the front wheels vs installing the same size front and rear>

Really interested in this. Hope to take my F out soon! If even to a local auto-x course! I wonder how much slicks would run?

Meanwhile here are some pics I took from the F launch at Moroso last year:
