Rear brake pad noise
I noticed a clanking noise from rear thinking it was a loose heat shield or exhaust tip. Turns out there is some play on both rear pads and over rough road, they make a distinct metallic clank noise. Tech showed me and there is play on both rear pads just enough so to create a noise over rough road. My car is 400 miles young (MY '12).
Are you guys hearing this noise as well? Just an ISF thing or is there something else I should consider? Thanks.

Let me add that I started noticing when all four windows rolled down plus moonroof. Also it is not just any rough road. It has to be say like going over rumble strips.. a series of them. abrupt in nature. Hard to hear with rear windows up.
I checked another isf and had same play.

Try this for me..... On your next extended parking period.
Full press in and engage your Parking Brake Pedal.
Then on your next drive, see if the noise is till present.
Chances are the Parking Brake cable has some slack in it.
(Had this exact problem MY08 IS350 Sport Package)
Let us know.. Hopefully the noise disappears

Yep, I recall about 6 mos into owning my F, the rear brakes started to squeak. I contemplated going to the dealer for the TSB, but than one day, it just stopped and has never reoccurred. I have replaced my front rotors and pads (Ferodo DS2500) but the rears are still OEM and make no noise now.

thanks but not once did i say it sounds like a squeak. it is NOT a squeak. it's a metallic clank noise. i'm a-ok with squeaks. gt3 stock brakes squeak like a motherpucker. it's a track car. all good. this noise is rather annoying. people can hear it whenever i drive around downtown where the roads are rougher.

Just to close the loop here as I can't stand when people come in ask for help and end up forgetting to update...
Turns out it was the parking brake shoes/cable needed some adjusting (Joe Z was in the ballpark).
It wasn't enough to simply press the pedal overnight or whatever. Tech added a dab of grease here and there. Also tightened the cable, adjusted the shoes a little bit. Noise looks to be gone.
It's a definite higher pitched metal on metal clank noise over certain types of bumps at a decent rate of speed. Goes away when parking brake applied. It is NOT the brake pads. They all have a bit of play in caliper.
Thanks!

Ballpark..?? More like Spot On..

If my DIY solution didn't work... Naturally the dealership tech would hopefully "fix" it permanently...
You're Welcome..
