Default Transmission a little rough?

Anyne else think their transmission is a little strange at times? Mine seems to make hard shifts every now and then, alot when I just start to go when it makes the 1-2 shift when moving around a parking lot or something, not so much when i'm driving. It does seem like a "busy" transmission though, it may be just me. Do you think I should take it in. I am used to 5 sp auto in my dodge ram so it may just be a normal 6 speed auto feel....

Try using the stick shifters a little more.

My up shifts are really smooth... If anything it's the 2-1 shift once in a while that will give me a little jerk.

Our ES' auto trans seems to rapidly hunt back and forth between two gears from time to time. Like it can't make up its mind which gear to be in, so it bounces between 2 gears, probably 15 times in a matter of a second or two. Not sure if this is the same thing as what you're experiencing? Something wacky with the shift logic, I presume.

Not alone. It is the computer having a hard time when you are at or close to shift points. It seems to me the car is a little fast on the upshift and slow on the down shift, I'm guessing to increase gas mileage.

when I'm just creeping along without pressing the gas or brake and I accelerate, sometimes it will start out in 1st instead of 2nd and it will feel a little abrupt going into 2nd.

You're not alone. The shift from 1-2 is definitely the most noticeable and it tends to happen really quickly. A lot of times I will just use the paddles because of the 1-2 shift.

The gearboxes in the 250 and 350 are significantly different. Saying you have issues with a 250 and getting replies from 350 owners isn't apples to apples.

Really? From all I can see the only difference is in some of the gear ratios otherwise the same box. That said my IS250 shifts like a dream. Most of the time I can't feel a shift. But agree if I do feel one it's the 1 to 2nd change. The further up the chart the smoother they get...

mine seems to shift a tad hard every once in awhile. But nowhere near the point to have to bring it in. I think it's normal. Most of the time i don't even feel it shift.

nope, your not alone. What model year is your Dodge Ram?

Mines a oldie, 2500, with the 5.9, with the 47RE transmission. It has 67k miles.
It shifts stiff on cold mornings

Yes, I think the transmission is rather "harsh" at certain times. I was tempted to make a post about it, but I got lazy.

What annoys me the most is the 2-1 shifts. Sometimes it'll downshift hard enough to feel a pull. The 1-2 I also feel, but doesn't annoy me as much as the 2-1.
