Question Factory roof racks, where can i get them?

I do mountaing biking and for weekends it would be great to have them. I have only been able to find them in a lexus dealer in Australia http://www.melbcitylexus.com.au/defa...&productid=557

Does anybody knows where i can get it in the states?

Canadian dealerships should be able to get a roof rack and bike adapter for you.

Choose 2006. '07 has the same body as the '06.

Or, go with Thule - http://www.thuleracks.com

I just talked to a canadian dealer. They will ship the bike rack and roof rack to US but shipping cost a lot (UPS Ground). I've checked on Thule and Yakima and the OEM lexus one seems to be checper and might look better on the car. The T and Y go for about $630 with two bike racks. Tha't a little high for some bars that stick out 5 feet on each side (HAHA).

i have the yakima rack with 2 fork mounts.
dont get trunk racks which i have read many horror stories where the bike falls off or damages the trunk.
it is a hassle to remove the roof rack each time so i leave it on most the year as the weather is mild in houston for biking.
i will warn you bout the nicks the clamps on each tower will nick the paint on the inside door frame.
i thought bought getting the bones trunk rack but read on bike forum too many problems.
i just bought a $2000 specialized epic and last thing i want to do is have it run over on the freeway!

In England you have a lot of choice

ski box, roof rack, ski holders, surfboard/mast holders, barracuda bicycle holder and luggage box.
If you know people in England....

Default Update

I know everyone is going to have their own feelings about what I'm going to say but I've done research and this is what I've found.
FYI: I have a 2007 IS350
The Thule and Yak rack are about $635 for two upright bike holders and roof rack. This includes locks. This doesn't include tax which would be another $50 depending on your state taxes. I don't like these racks because the "poles" stick out of the car too much.

I talked to Clint at Performance Lexus in Canada (905) 934-3336. He helped me a lot. He is sending me pictures of the bike rack just to make sure I like it.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy the factory rack. Lexus does warranty the racks and they looks really nice (poles don’t stick out). They are made from another vendor who makes bike racks. Thule and Yak are good too but I think the factory rack will be better on my IS. Total with shipping is about $650.
I'll let you know what I decide.

Even if a trailer hitch is not available for your IS, one of the larger hitch installation companies may be able to fabricate one at a fairly reasonable price.

I carried bikes on roof mounted carriers for over 20 years but I've been using a hitch mounted bike rack on my Lexus LS cars for the past 17 years.

The racks that plug into a trailer hitch receiver have significant advantages: no worry about damage to the car; zero wind noise increase; no worry about forgetting you have bikes on top when you drive into a garage; quick and easy to remove and install; will fit on any car with a receiver hitch; will lock in place with a hitch pin lock; can cable lock bikes to the trailer hitch.

The worst part of a roof mounted bike rack is the "wind roar" it creates -- I like peace and quiet when I drive.

Hi,

Agree with you. I have both Thule and Yakima Roof racks from previous cars and "fixed" the stick out issue by using a hacksaw to cut the bars to a tidy length. It's a very quick procedure and the black end caps go right back on.

Cheers,

RJM

a pretty cheap place to get some racks is on www.orsracksdirect.com.... Their racks and accessories for any manufacturer they cary (yakima, thule, ...) are always on sale and anything over $100 is free shipping! thats where i got my yakima setup for my snowboards. The rack is angled because i had 4 boards on the car and the bindings would hit the roof when face down. Heres a couple pics.....
