Fastest 1/4 Mile Times.. Shift Paddles or Not? Ect Power Mode TOO??
Which mode gives the fastest 1/4 miles times? I plan on goinng to the track. From what I have been reading, it's faster to just stick it auto mode and press the gas, correct? The paddles are more for downshifting to a lower gear. ALso, the ECT Power mode will give the fastest times, right?

Nope, the rev limit doesn't change. PWR mode just changes the shift points both up and down to allow optimal acceleration. Under WOT in normal mode, the car does the same thing.....it's actually pretty smart, as cars go.
You might as well try some runs in both normal and PWR mode to see which yields the best results. The paddles will definitely make you slower though.

I don't get it. If at WOT the car reacts the same whether PWR is on or off, why would it make a difference at the track one way or the other? Only thing I can think of that makes sense is that the throttle mapping at anything under WOT with PWR mode on is a lot more aggressive and having it off may lead to easier launches. In which case it's not really that the car is faster, but more a matter of launch technique.

Well...PWR may hold revs as long as possible, but normal @ WOT may shift at correct point. Not sure, just guessing.
Going all the way through the powerband is usually not the fastest, unless the car peaks @max RPMs.

use pwr mode when racing around from a roll in traffic (not recommended btw) because it keeps you in the appropriate gear and the shift points are more agressive. From a stop though I guess it doesn't really matter as long as you don't use snow mode that's all.. and yeah the padle shifters are pretty useless from a stop but good for when you want to just hold a gear.

You leave it in D because it gives you a few more rpm's in each gear before shifting. Combfilter suspected this when he went to the track and Gernby verified this information. I've been leaving it in D ever since and it works perfectly.

I also had clerification from the F-Sport specialist at the Lexus dealer. If you have the ISF they say use the paddle shifters for quicker times, I have since read in the ISF forum to be true. On the IS350 you want to simply leave it in D and regular mode. I asked why and how this is. They said the computer reacts quicker and smarter on the IS350 then we can! They played around with it many times.....

Actually, the reason why the paddles are worthless on the ISX50 is because the transmission responds so slowly. There seems to be about 0.25 seconds of lag between the time you click the up-shift before it actually does it. Basically, to shift perfectly in 1st gear, you would have to click the up paddle at about 6100 RPMs so it would actually shift at 6600 RPMs, 2nd gear would be at about 6300 RPMs, and 3rd gear would be at about 6500 RPMs.

I'd hardly call that proof eithe. A single car? We'd need a larger sample each one doing back to back runs with PWR mode on and off. If and only if Cayman's results can be duplicated on the majority of IS350's can this be considered proof.
