strange reaction? (Idle RPMs drop and car shakes occassionally)
hi,
this week my car starting to act very strange that i never see that before.
sometime when i stop my car completely(like on red light), the RPM dropped like the engine is going to die(the car shake a little bit) then it go back up normal again....this happened 3-4 times already so i was wondering what happened?
P.S. sorry for my poor english.
thanks
Nick

that happen to me too when i had the IS250 AWD. it would look like the car is shutting down but it jumps back up again. i remember seeing another thread explaining why.
here is the thread.

if it gets worst i suggest taking her in to have it checked out.

I don't think they can do much. You have to recreate the problem for them to be able to do anything about it.
Every few months, my car does the exact same thing. When I'm idling at a stop light, my RPM briefly drops below RPM and the car shutters a bit, then it fixes itself. I'm not too worried since this has happened to alot of people on this forum. I guess the engine likes to idle at the lowest RPM possible without dying and sometimes it gets lazy

i have had this on many vehicles(iam a tech)
the IS is a drive by wire system, no mechanical linkiage to the thorotle, at idle it will go into a lean mixture to save gas, most pepole notice the rpm change, this when the a/c compressor is on and the engine is warm since the the computer has to change its rpm for it to keep the compressor on , i have also noticed most of the vehicles it happens to , that the throtle body is dirty and has carbon build up,
the stealerships usually tell you that you need a tune up or sell you an air filter.
most of the time its normal
sorry for the broken english too.
by the way this was on VW's and Audi's, my not be the same faults on a Lexus
