First my apologies to the moderators if this is redundant. I tried to bring up the existing combined thread but it was not accessable.

I hard wired my 9500 in my new '10 250AWD drive today. I did it a bit differntly than I did my '07. 1st I noticed the fuse box looked like it would be a pain to wire into, so I wanted to avoid it. Next I popped the speaker cover for center speaker on the dash. Turned out there was no center speaker (there was on my wife's ES350 which I also wired today). I reached in and felt around, seemed that I should be able to snake the wire straight down through the dash. I got a wire hanger and with minimal manipulation I was through.

On the center console I pulled the side trim. I gently worked a screw driver between the trim and the center console of the dash. It slides towards the rear and lifts out. Next SET THE BRAKE, remove the shifter release cover and depress the release to move the shifter to neutral (remove the shift ****) and you can now remove the shifter trim. It pulls up from the front and then ease your way bock to the glove box (which should be open).

The Ashtray is next. 2 Phillps bolts need to be removed and the ashtry will lift right out.

I picked up a ground in front of the astray (10mm bolt) and power from the cigarette lighter with a 3m tap.

Took all of about an hour.



The snake came out at side of the center console. I was able to get the wire under the side trim by gently prying the lower edge away from the carpet, I did not have to remove the side trim.



Here is a pic of the console side bezel so you can see the angle of the clips.







Ashtray bolts, remove and the ashtray wiggle right out.

Lexus has the cigarette lighter switched with the ignition. Some cars (like Porsche) have them on all the time.

So YES the Passport comes on when I start the car, and shuts down when the ignition is off.

Behind the cigarette lighter the red wire is the power lead. The blue plastic thing is the 3M press on tap. The Passport cable plugs into it.

its easier and a cleaner install if you mount the radar up by the sunroof switch with double sided tape. then you can tap into the sunroof wires for a hardwire. it looks better then having it attached to your winshield like that.

I've done up high in the past, didn't care for it.
I prefer it down lower so I can see the controls, which have become more complex with time.

I've been using Escort Detectors since the original Cincinnati Microwave Escort.

I have a 9500 in each each car (3). I just upgraded from the 8500.
I love the new 9500. The GPS feature is a great addition.

BTW, I'm not as big a spender as it sounds. I picked up the detectors w/ assorted rebate cards, and Amazon points. The latest one cost me $50 out of pocket.

Great write up! I hard wired my own from the fuse panel below the driver side and tucked the cable behind the front post and top of the roof liner and down the rearview mirror and my radar sits below my rearview mirror so i can see the buttons clearly.
