I would definitely use nuts and bolts and the rods on top of that.

Ok. So. Nuts and bolts.

Can someone tell me if (i dont know yet because the parts are coming today and tomorrow) the nuts and bolts will only be fastening to the lip (will be a gfx lip)? If so, I may as well pre bolt them onto the new lip I'm getting, then install the lip. I'm guessing this is the case but dont want to guess and be wrong in planning

And yes, support rods are in the mix too.

it all depends on how the splitter attaches. i had mine going into the underside of my bumper. the nuts and bolts wont pull out since the nut is holding the screw from turning/vibrating which causes a slightly bigger hole and the pull out.

I say install the GFX front lip first, then attach the Splitters to it. It was hard enough for me to install my front lip perfectly, wouldnt know how a bigger protrusion would affect the overall fitment of the lip. I think it would be harder to get the correct fitment. As far as taking the front bumper off, go here: YouTube - How to remove the bumper from a Lexus IS250 / IS350 to install Lite-Eyes
CCFL Halos / Angel Eyes. This helped me out ALOT when I first took my bumper off. Shouldnt take more than 30 minutes. Now im a pro at taking it off. lol Where in Texas are you located?

I'm in DFW.

I'm still confused about my primary question. Do the splitters (there are two, boomerang looking that wrap around each side to front) attatch to the lip only....or is part of the bumper under there that splitters need to attach to. Based on photos alone, it appears that they just drill into the lip.

some of my friends have the CF splitters and I was going to do the same eventually. But to my knowledge, it gets drilled to the lip itself, not the underbody of the car. Have you asked seller "n0th1ng" if that was truly the case? He should know since he has them on his car now....I would have helped you with the bumper removal if you were close to either Houston or Sugarland, but DFW is far!!! hahaha

Just knowing that they are drilled right into the lip itself answers my main question because then ..no bumper removal needed!!

Now with a new lip..if the splitter fails and tears up the lip....i have my old lip to fall back on. As far as support rods.....I think I'll refrain until I can find a way to mount them to through grille to some kind of frame..that way if they fail, the rods wont rip up my bumper. Mounting rods through the grill obviously requires bumper removal and the mounting to a frame/subframe is something I cant do anyway so i'll likely have to pay to have that done.

I say go through the extra little hassle to get it done right. If it was me, I would want to have it done right the first time to avoid any tearing or ripping of my bumper....thats just me.....

Just got the splitter a bit ago

Don't ANYONE buy one of these "universal" splitters floating about here or online. They look ok but in order to make this thing fit I'm going to have to pay (a lot more than the cost of the splitter) to have it manipulated (heated, bent, etc. etc.) in order for it to even come close to fitting. Then the guy at a local shop that I just saw is talking about adding metal etc. etc. Kind of a waste of money.

I wont be doing it. If it actually fit I could. But it doesnt.

I'll post pics after I pay someone to put on "universal" fitting part that doesnt fit haha.

Interesting this post came up today...
I was sitting around the other day trying to think of a more rigid DIY solution for splitters rather than CF or ABS. I thought I'd template out the shape and have my buddy cut it out of 6061 aluminum plate on his CNC machine, then wrap it in 3M CF vinyl (or whatever, powder-coat, bang can, etc). Pre-drill the holes for the nuts/bolts, and also use turnbuckle style mounts.

Open for discussion, feedback welcome!

Brian
