Cutting rear spindle
Wondering if this would pose any problems for me?
I recently bought new wheels, and they are concave. (LC818's to be specific)
These wheels came with 2 different styles of centercap.
I want to use the flat (silver) style cap. Currently, the only way to do this is to use a 5mm spacer, because without the spacer, the spindle sticks out past the rim. But when you do use the spacer, it pokes the tire/rim face out past the fender.
So, I would like to cut about 3-4mm of the spindle off so that I can use the flat (silver) caps WITHOUT the 5mm spacer.
What do you think? Has this been done before?

And I would not be "grinding it down" I would cut off 3-4mm of the excess (which is a lot of extra, not sure why the axles are so long) And then re-tap the threads.

How is this a major modification? Seems simple enough, cut, tap threads, done.
You guys must take your cars to the dealership to get your oil changed... lol!
I was just checking to see if there would be any ill effects to shaving some off?

Yeah, there's a definite negative to cutting the end off the axle, and no, the dealer doesn't touch my car.
There's a fundamental rule in fastener technology - any self-locking fastener needs at least three full threads showing past the fastener to ensure the self-locking feature works and the fastener holds full torque. Ask any A&P qualified mechanic.
Trimming the end of the axle for cosmetic purposes is ignorant at best and just plain dumb at worst. Don't do it.
