Micaiah impressed me big time today.
Those of you that have met me know that I drive Micaiah like an old lady - I try not to speed, I switch lanes slowly - well, I AM old so I guess that's appropriate...ANYWAY, just a little while ago I was on the freeway and was behind a big work truck with the regular spacing of the three second rule. It's a tad windy. Behind me is a Hyundai sedan and behind him is a Toyota full size truck. The Hyundai is closer to me than I feel comfortable with, but whatever.
Next thing you know, out of the truck in front of me this big black thing (probably the size of my hood) slowly rises up. Looks like a C shaped plastic thing, a shroud of sorts. Suddenly the wind takes hold of it, and it's coming my way!!
I swerve sharply to the left, it barely misses me and slams into the Hyundai, part of it hits the hood, the other part goes under the front. The Hyundai I see is now (well it looks like) hopping over that thing and it almost looks like it's entangling underneath it.
Behind it comes a bunch of pieces as it's being torn up and bombards the Toyota.
Wow.
After I calm down I realize how smooth Micaiah handled that. I didn't feel like I lost control of him at all in an emergency situation. I feel bad for the cars behind me but either they didn't see it come out of the truck in front of me or .... whatever. I don't know. All I know is that Hyundai HAD to have suffered some kind of damage.
I'm really impressed with the IS. This surprised me greatly as I am not used to driving my car like this. I am very lucky. It could have come into my windshield and I would not be here to post this.
I just had to share this with you all. I am very thankful.

Thanks me too! I think more than anything it was in response of protecting my car.
This was off of HW4 before the Bailey Road exit.

Just out of curiosity: What's the rule on covered loads in California? I know that if something flies out of a truck and hits someone the driver of the truck is responsible, but is there a law in California that says all loads must be secured? If so are there any exemptions (semi's, agriculture, etc.)? Is the law strictly enforced?
Just curious.

Yes. He's a HE and his name is Micaiah. A lot of the guys here call their cars a SHE.
They have to be covered and secured. But I think this truck was carrying big pieces and it was deep inside the truck's back. It wasn't a pick up truck, it was something way bigger. Not as big as a semi, though. When driving behind him, I saw only a part of it sticking up and out. The wind must have caught that like a sail and pulled it up.
This isn't the truck but the design looked a lot like this. The top is open.
