IS250 Engine Noise
2007 IS250
Mileage: 79XXX
Auto
Hey guys,
I've been noticing some knocking/tapping noise coming from the engine. This is definitely the sound coming from the direct injection. Do you think this is the dreaded piston slap noise? I've searched for threads regarding this issue but haven't found anything specific to the is250. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where in CA are you located?
I work at a Lexus dealer in the service department. If you are close enough I will get it looked at for you. But from the clip, it sounds serious.

Probably a long shot but maybe it's the water pump. My car had a sound similar to that. Mine sounded like a dirty bearing and the sound would go away when I revved the engine but come back on lower rpms.

Thanks for the quick response. I live in San Francisco and commute to Palo Alto during the week. How much does the dealership usually charge for a diagnosis?
I'm planning on removing the engine covers and pin pointing whether it is in fact bad bearings in the water pump, alternator, or power steering. It's been raining so I'm not sure if I'll get to it this week. I'll let you guys know if I find anything out.

Man i hope it's not the water pump. I don't have time to replace it myself nor do I have an extra car at the moment. The last thing I would want is the water pump to seize. Does anyone know if the 4grsfe is a non interference motor?

Yes. I drove the LFA.

The water pump is driven by the drive belt, so if it seizes, the drive belt will likely break, but has nothing to do with being an interference engine or not. Its not an old timing belt engine that will cause a broken timing belt, these engines are chain driven. But if it seizes, its gunna overheat...

Thanks for the heads up. I have my appt tomorrow for the water pump.
I also heard a squealing noise from the engine bay today, at idle not that strong, but as you build up rpms 2-4k you can hear it. Wonder if that is related to the pump.
