Default Crazy Timing

I always enjoy watching the Barrett Jackson auto auction and it is on the fyi network today.
Both of these sold today.

Thanks tecman! That 2004 looks EXACTLY like my ‘05 and I paid almost the exact same amount, LOL. Looks like the value goes way down once they get molested as in the case of that yellow one. It’s the blue interior that gets me - you just don’t see many cars these days with blue interiors although I think you can maybe with the LC or maybe it was one of the Inspiration Series cars? I used to have a 1970 Cougar Convertible in Bright Blue Metallic with the blue comfort-weave high back bucket seats and ‘69/‘70 Shelby GT500 wheels

EDIT: Hey I see you’re in GA - if you feel like doing a little road trip to Orlando next weekend you should come to the LC500 Rally on Sat 10/7 - should be a blast! My goal is to get half a dozen LC500’s to attend See other thread for details.

Well yeah if you have 3 kids I’d say you’re lucky to have any 2 seat convertible in your stable - although I suppose technically the LC has 4 seats My kid (the little guy in the pic above) is off to college so I have no family requirements and no need anymore for an SUV - although I still have my Jeep which is a lot of fun in its own way.

This S2000 review by an older gentleman is pretty funny - thought I was watching an old nature documentary narrated by Marlin Perkins or Jacques Cousteau

GatorGreg, you mentioned in the picture thread that you replaced this S2000 with a red Corvette.
Why the quick replacement?

I noticed the S2000 to C5 Corvette vert change as well. And the C5 is auto.

Not trying to be intrusive but I’m curious as well about the change, if you’re comfortable sharing.

Both are very appealing convertibles.

I always wanted to own an S2000 and I had tons of fun with it but it was just not very comfortable - not enough leg room for me and the steering wheel is fixed - doesn’t telescope or even go up and down. My lady friend and I like to play music when cruising with the top down and the sound system was laughably awful in the S2000 especially compared to the ML system in my LC or the Alpine system in my Jeep that we’re used to. I’m also a bit of a Corvette guy and always wanted a C5 convertible - I remember sitting in a 1998 model when they first came out and couldn’t afford one (they were over $50K new even back then) and falling in love with the “waterfall” between the seats and its wide *** I also love Verts with white tops (I bought a new ‘97 Mystic Teal Z/28 with white top back in the day) so when I saw this pristine red C5 with original white top sitting at the local Mercedes dealership I fell in love at first sight. It’s bone stock except for the exhaust which makes the LS1 sound really good. Interestingly the performance figures (0-60, 1/4 mile, skidpad, top speed, etc) of the C5 Corvette and LC500 are all very similar with the LC being a few tenths of a second quicker despite its much heavier weight.

Finally I was (am) a fan of Prince (saw him in concert twice) so the idea of having a little torch red Corvette with red seats in my stable just puts a huge smile on my face! My lady friend said the Vette was “sexy as f@ck” and she’s able to drive it cuz it’s an auto unlike the S2000 but that had no bearing on my decision whatsoever 😉 The car came equipped with the Bose system with CD changer in the trunk so the first thing I did was load it up with my old Prince CDs and for an old car it still sounds pretty damn good! Now I’m on the lookout for a slime green car to complete my skittles collection

Thanks! I’m looking forward to driving “Princess” to work tomorrow since traffic is usually much lower on Friday and it’s gonna be perfect convertible weather with sunny skies and a high of 83 - gonna see if I can get her up into triple digits on the long bridge into Tampa while blasting some Prince - hopefully the “Big Banana” won’t get jealous

Nice C5! I still kinda miss my 2004 from over a decade ago. I always thought they were great-looking cars.

Yeah, S2000s are cool and all, but you really have to beat on them to get any speed/power. And 3,700 rpm just to go 70 mph? Makes me tired just thinking about it! The C5 will effortlessly cruise at 70 mph (while getting high 20s mpg), and you don't have to abuse it to go fast like in the S2000.

Thanks! Yes the S2000 was very frenetic and all my senses were on 100% alert when driving it which was a great adrenaline rush for awhile and would be great for the track. If I was maybe 10 years younger and 4 inches shorter I might have kept it. My C5 on the other hand was optioned out to be a relaxed GT boulevard cruiser with the auto tranny, HUD, dual climate zone, Bose audio w/CD changer, no performance axle ratio, no Z51 suspension package. And you’re right it cruises effortlessly at 70 and is super smooth off the line with gobs of low end torque and surprisingly quick yet tame when you want it to be.

BTW I was over on the Corvette forum earlier today and someone posted this wild crash video that you may find of interest as a former C5 owner:

Your C5 is most definitely a cruiser! And a cool one at that. Nice to see it has a bunch of options as well, and that you're using it to its full potential as a cruiser! Mine was also an auto, but a coupe with the Z51 package and 3.15 axle ratio; I believe it was fully loaded with the sole exception of magnetic ride control. It was exactly what I wanted, and I was surprised I was able to find one in a color I liked (Spiral Grey Metallic). And with under 17k miles... Memories haha.

Dang, that was a wild crash. Amazing to hear that both the driver and pedestrian survived and are expected to be "OK." Although I suspect that, if the driver has any assets, his finances will not be doing OK after the virtually guaranteed civil litigation from the pedestrian. Hopefully he has a good unbrella policy!

Ooooh Spiral Gray is an awesome color and fairly rare as it was only avail for the ‘03 and ‘04 model years - a very Lexus-like color that would have been a great LC500 color IMO, definitely in my Top 5 C5 colors along with Millennium Yellow, Nassau Blue, Bowling Green and of course Torch Red. Yeah the driver of the wrecked C5 is receiving appropriate grief on the Corvette forum - my favorite comment was by a member named Railroadman who commented:
"Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!"

I also bought a new C5 (coupe) in spiral gray metallic back in 2003, and A4 as well... but had to sell it due to severe piston slap. It left me cold with the awful quality, being used to Lexus, and other Japanese/European vehicles. And it was the top trim, fully loaded. Got a C6 Grand Sport 4LT in 2012 (manual this time), and it had a defective transmission, so it was the last Vette (and GM) for me.

Yep I traded in a C8 for my LC because of similar quality issues and I couldn’t trust it as a co-daily driver to get me to work. I figure since my C5 is a 3rd vehicle / weekend plaything for me I won’t be too upset if it has an occasional hiccup
