trying to buy 24 LC,,this is 1st post
#16
If I didn't already have a LC and knew that I wanted another one more than any other car, then Lexus would have lost me as a buyer on waiting on a new LC a long time ago. And even so I've had my LC deposit on both a bespoke and a "regular" order for more than 5 months now and still don't have any semblance that my order will even be accepted - which is likely to cause me to start looking at other cars soon.
The biggest problem for me was finding a salesperson who wanted to go through the effort of ordering the car. The fleet manager at a local dealership had a '19 Inspiration Edition, we're friends on Facebook and chatted at a couple of local Lexus meets, have messaged a number of times. I pinged a couple of times about a bespoke '24 convertible, he kinda half responded then stopped responding at all.
Having successfully gone through the bespoke process, the biggest issue as I see it are the salespeople. We're not talking about a technically skilled group of people here. I suspect that most of us here haven't "needed a salesperson" at a car dealership in decades, except to facilitate the deal. So to introduce a different process to building / buying than what this unskilled group of people are used to is a recipe for failure. And any additional involvement on my part to get the order in was spending time to help make sure that person / process doesn't fail, because getting the car I wanted was worth it.
My advice / goal with Lexus corporate will be to provide this ^^^ feedback. Will they do something about it? Unlikely. Toyota / Lexus makes money on mass production and lean optimization, the margin on a bespoke LC is a lot more effort for just a little more margin than them just selling another RX or two.
In the end, a bad process means these cars are even more rare in 10 years when people will unload dumptrucks of money to buy something with a NA V8 rather than a "small displacement turbo + hybrid engine that looks fine on paper" like this:
This ^^^ is the future. People are going to be falling all over themselves to buy LC500s in 10 years.

Salespeople are hit or miss across all brands.
Other brands allow you to build it online and give you build code. You send that build code to sales rep and he provides you production # that you can track online or the app.
This is elementary retail sales that should not be that difficult for Lexus NA to implement in its largest market. I’m not even asking them to do a la carte options, just ability to pick colors and the packages available. They should also have “Delivery Experience” in US like all the other brands provide. It goes a long way to build loyal clients.

So I am experiencing the same scenario as the original poster. I contacted my Lexus dealer mid-June seeking information regarding when the 2024s were gong to hit the US market. When dealers began receiving their '24 LCs in mid-July, I went back to the dealer told them I wanted to purchase an LC. Got some vague information from the salesman, not satisfied I asked for the Sales Manager and began working with him telling him exactly what I wanted.
It is now October 10th and I'm still waiting for the SM to find a match for what I want. Thank you to jbuffett and his post regarding information regarding exactly how Lexus allocates vehicles to dealerships and how the customer is just an afterthought. When I asked the SM exactly how Lexus decides what dealerships get and could I order an LC through the dealership he told me exactly what jbuffett posted. The SM found several examples of the vehicle I wanted, I went online and found vehicles and sent the info to the SM. In the Lexus model of sales the consumer is basically are at the mercy of 2 dealerships being able to broker a deal. The SM told me several dealerships; failed to respond to inquiries, said a deal was pending on the car, wanted 2 vehicles in exchange for their LC.
In September the SM told me he ordered an LC based on my criteria. I was told this didn't mean that he would receive what he ordered, and after dealerships receive their allotments if my car isn't at his dealership he would search other dealerships to see if they received it.
So I continue to patiently wait. my worst fear isliving in the Midwest I receive my LC in January.

With winter tires the car is wonderful in cold weather so a January delivery, no problem.
When I spoke with my local dealer in Fall of 20, wanting a convertible with xyz spec they said order one and wait 7-8 months and no discount.
I found that CarGurus had the most complete list of available vehicles (some listed prior to being received by the dealership) and my winning play was to just contact the stores having the car I wanted. The first one I found was sold to a local customer. The second one was the hit. I had to pay shipping from Texas, which I was fine with and no real waiting or wondering.

I'm in Arizona and bought my LC from the dealer in Lincoln Nebraska. I found it on line by searching dealer inventories. I flew over with a friend. The dealer picked us up at the airport. The purchase experience at Lexus of Lincoln was superb I gave them a personal check. There were no fees l and they furnished me with a 30 day tag. We drove the car home. Took us 20 hours

There's 2 Cloudbursts in the whole country in dealer inventory. One in VA, one in CA.

Here's the nationwide allocation sheet for LC's. I don't know where it comes from but it's always up to date.
