Won't take too long. I'll be up and down the East Coast from FL to VA to NY area for the break-in period, so it'll be quick. After 10K, then I would only use it for fun of driving & warmer weather only.

I stopped by my Lexus shop yesterday to schedule an oil change. The guy said it would be a synthetic blend, I'm at 18K miles. Should I be using full synthetic now?

Full synthetic or not is a personal things and many have different opinions on this. It's largely due to the cost and the question of necessity given the oil change intervals. Some feel a synthetic blend is just as good, others don't. It's a personal thing. I for one only use full synthetic (mobile 1) after the full break-in period. It just makes me feel better, which means 'Marketing' is working on suckers like me

Thanks. This shop is big on OEM so they tend to frown on anything else. I will discuss it with them tomorrow. I drove the car 5K miles in a year and it sits most of the time in winter. I do run it hard when I drive it so I want what is best for it.

Im gonna change my own oil at 1K miles using Toyota 5w30 dino oil+toyota filter on my dime and let dealer change oil at 6K on their dime..and hopefully at 11K.

Here is the best video for oil change (Japan) (Use Translated Captions): Apparantly Japan made filters sold in Japan comes with the drain plug. I've asked my local lexus dealer about this, acording to him, he has never seent his in the US sold OEM filters. Not that I would use it, but makes me wonder why it's different here...


This video is pretty detailed. Guy takes in his LC at 600miles to do a thorough check up with an independent mechanic, and collect samples from every component that has oil to be analyzed. Also inspects exhaust bolts, etc.., Most detailed look at LC 500 @ 600 miles (1000KM), shows the condition, sludges, etc..., Makes me think twice about my diff oil.. I may do a diff / transmission oil change at 10K, as part of the break in process going forward based on what I'm seeing here. To each's own.

Can anyone confirm if this wrench would be ok to use for my LC 500 as well, or would I need a different wrench?

Make sure to check oil level after dealer replaced oil. In my case I see they overfill it twice already. I had to remove almost a quart to bring it to the level indicated on a deep stick. It looks like instead of 9.1 they just put 10 and call it done.

too much oil is bad also for most cars. not sure with Lex.

Do exactly what the owner’s manual says and get your servicing at the dealer while the car is under warranty.
If your car requires 0W20 motor oil as my Lexus does, all 0W20 is full synthetic.
If Lexus thought your car needed a “break -in” oil change, they would say so.
Modern engines and modern lubricants, quit worrying and start enjoying your car and stay out from under the hood. Every time a nut is loosened on a car there is a potential for a problem.

Sounds to me like either your oil didnt drain all the way for some reason, or the mechanic was neglegent. If you didn't check it, it could've been bad..
