Thoughts on purchasing a 2018 LC with nearly 100k miles
Hi All,
I知 in the market for a 2018 Lexus and found a model from a private seller not too far away from me. Seller is looking to get $50k (non-negotiable) which seems like a fair price but I知 concerned about the high miles and potential issues.
if you were currently in the market for a 2018, would you proceed with the purchase or wait for a lower mileage LC at a higher price ($55-60k)?
Appreciate any feedback!

Hey there, Jinz. From everything I am reading regarding the engine/powertrain on these cars, they are as reliable as it gets. If the owner can provide maintenance records, go for it.

Everything's a trade off. You have to figure out what's more important to you. As others say these are pretty reliable and solid cars, but any car with over 100k miles will need significant maintenance.

The engine is stout and the only major issue I've heard about is the valley plate leak (the sealant breaks down over time and you will begin to lose coolant). Take the car to a local shop and have them do an inspection.

Supposedly the 2UR GSE motor in the LC and a few other older model Lexus's did years back, have a leak at the valley plate but was said to have upgraded to new seals/sealant. This issue was mentioned on other forums and was said "we will have to wait and see if it was corrected, but the LC's had not reached the 6 figure miles yet. Soooo???

assuming the car is in great shape (ie, 100k worth of reasonable wear and tear, but nothing startling) and has been properly maintained
with records, have it thoroughly inspected, and you like the ride - go for it ! besides, you can always trade up to a newer one if you have enough cake;
these cars retain significant value.

Way too much for a car woth those miles. You can get one with have those miles for $20K more. If you need to wait to get more money wait. Yes, these cars are bulletproof, but who wants to take the risk?

I致e seen one like that for sale around $50k. The motor would be fine but stuff like the door handles and other expensive stuff would make me concerned. Everything is expensive on these cars and I壇 be hesitant to spend that much unless you have $3,000+ set aside to take care of any maintenance or repairs that pop up. I知 thinking this may be the route I go but I want lower miles. Aside from working at a dealership that gets one on trade, it will be hard to find one near $50k.
IS-F痴 seem to do fine at over 100,000 miles, aside from the valley plate leaking. I致e seen a few high mileage GS-F痴 and RC-F痴 with mileage around 100k for sale but I don稚 know anyone personally with one. The LC is on a different level than those cars in my opinion so I would be a little weary unless the price was crazy cheap or you could get parts close to employee/dealer cost.

1. Steering wheel replacement.
2. new seat cover (genuine) + foam cushioning under and back.
3. Driver side inner door handle (may or may not need it).
At least items 1 & 2. then factor that cost into the total cost of purchase. That's just me.
Even if I bought a 50k car, I'd still replace the steering wheel or if there is a way to only purchase genuine leather, have a skilled upholster to replace leather. Gives me the hibber-jibbies just thinking about the sweat on that. Not that this is a must, and you may be ok with it, but I have particular needs and concerns which you may not share. Just my 2 cents.

Some people have limited budget, but still want what they want. I'm sure the engine would be great. After all, it's one of the most reliable and best made 'modern' cars out there. I am sure it will server you well. Go with your heart. Life is short. Get what you want and what works for you. At the end of the day, regardless of my opinion based on my personal wants and cirstances don't mean anything. Follow your heart! If you are ready to commit to everything that comes with a 100k car at the price you're paying, then it's the right choice. You do you!
