Default ‘24 Arrived - Convertible Top Update

My ‘24 arrived and unfortunately as of Feb production (I was told it was a March production) the issue was still unresolved (see pics). The head tech said he and Lexus are aware of the issue and there is a special convertible alignment tool but there’s only one per area and requires special approval. He said the alignment would be a slow tedious task which he wasn’t looking forward to. It will be interesting to see if in fact March and later production finally have addressed this at the factory. Both the head tech and GM (who’s been wonderful) were disappointed Lexus let these vehicles out of the factory this way-where’s the famous Lexus QC?

So after driving a ~450 mile round trip to get the car we passed until they can get confirmation exactly when the issue was resolved.

As you can see in the pics the gap on both sides is no where’s near even especially when measured from the inside. Oh, and by the way it had Dunlops like all the others since initial ‘24 release.

This was the first time I saw the 10 spokes in person and they were quite nice but will be a pain to clean; the brush set I posted about a while back is a must and will make it much easier. The new dark rose interior is a step up over the mismatched different shades of red in the pre 24’s and it with the extra black really looks great.

Welcome to the club. And don’t worry too much about top. Mine is exact same and believe me I saw much worth. I also was told that they have a procedure and willing to adjust it which will take about 3 hours like they said. But I said next time maybe

Thanks but I’m waiting until they get it sorted during production. As mentioned the head tech said adjusting conv tops are not easy and they never had to do it before so no beta testing for me.

Wow, that is so disappointing especially knowing you were aware of my top fit saga. I can understand how some nuanced things can get passed inspection, but this issue is/was pretty visible (I say that as someone who delivered Business/Private aircraft for many years, the things that would come out of Final delivery were sometimes embarrassing). Did they at least offer a Loaner vehicle at the Dealership? The drawback is you start to think; If they missed something this big, what else do I not know? After reading about the Motomachi plant I just expected better, maybe it was just a self-promoting piece.

That said, I'm over 2K miles riding thru some heavy rain (and eclipses) with no leaks or further issues after whatever they did for my fit.

Mine did come with Michelin Super Sport tires, which the tire type installation/selection seems to be weird. For cleaning I got the Chemical Guys Diablo Gel and the Rimpaca Reach Around brush set (sounds strange saying that ). Yep, PITA to clean especially the front with the brake dust.

Hope you get it resolved to satisfaction and on the road shortly.

Thanks.
The dealer felt bad and they had asked it to be inspected by the Lexus field rep prior to my picking it up who is familiar with the issue but he was out of town and did it via FaceTime with the dealers head tech who wasn’t very/as familiar with the issue.
I also asked for close ups of the top on both sides but their pics were not as close as the ones I took/posted here, so it was hard to tell. It was also supposed be a March production where I believe the issue was resolved by then but the car showed it as 2/24.
So glad yours got the Pilots! What is the production date of yours? I didn’t take delivery (so no loaner) as their head tech said the top adjustment was not an easy process and requires special equipment they don’t even have. I did not feel comfortable with them or any dealer making this adjustment.
I dealt directly with the GM for the entire process and she was great and would buy from them/her again. I forgot about the finger test in the inside gaps, and if it were done beforehand I would have never made the 450 mile trip. The dealer is looking into this issue more deeply and should have additional info this week. The factory is aware of the issue and I need confirmation of when they began correcting it on the line.
I see you have a background in exec jets, I just chartered a Citation X but was also offered a Challenger 300 for $5,000 more across country but stuck with the Citation as they’re both super mid-size, any thoughts?

My production date was 3/23 (door tag) and delivered around 5/23, I purchased 2/24. It's been sitting on the lot for awhile (it is Michigan), that was probably part of the significant discount. I agree about the Dealerships, having had enough bad experiences with other manufacturers it's easier to appreciate the good ones.

I'm a little biased for the mid-size selection since I worked/retired from the OEM who starts with a "G". But if I had to pick between the two, the Citation is faster although the cabin is slightly smaller. Save the 5K in case of something breaking/rerouting required

re the pilots, makes sense as yours was one of the first 24’s, they are THE best tires.

I booked the X and if the weather cooperates we can make it non-stop (FL to N Cali) but because our local exec airport has a shorter runway they can’t take on too much fuel. I don’t mind a stop as I luv the take offs in these kinds of planes. I studied aerospace and used to fly both rotorcraft and fixed wing before I switched to biz/finance. Nice you were with Gulfstream, they are the best in my humble opinion.

It was a great career with them, +32yrs. But I don’t miss anything. Most of the time my flying consisted of either flight testing or working some kind of fault. I was the strange one in Aviation, never really cared about flying, but did love working with the latest equipment and troubleshooting/repair.

Stops aren’t bad if you have the time, there are some really nice FBO’s along the way. And because your BizAv it’s great with no TSA issues.

Just got back from a ride in the vert (not rubbing it in), never thought I could enjoy a car so much, and the weather is currently cooperative also! Wife thinks I’m crazy since I look for reasons to drive now.

Hey 2959, is yours a 24 or a late 23? Your sig shows 23 but for some reason I thought you had a 24 re the covt top issue. If it's a 23 you have different pilots (RF's) and were a luck of the draw to get. vs the new S5's which are non RF's, and my comments re having them as part of early'24 release wouldn't be relevant in your case. Sorry for any confusion. .

It’s a 2023 but purchased new in 2024. Had to go look at the tires and they are the RF21’s. Hope you get your vehicle straightened out so you can enjoy it.

Thanks, we passed on it and hope to get one without the issue/already addressed at factory, I'll know more when the March production vehicles hit dealers any day now.

Just took my 2024 into dealer for same top fitment problem. He looked it up and said there is a TSB on it, and he will fix it this Thursday, it should take about 3 hours to accomplish. Hope yours gets fixed soon.

See if you can get a copy/take a pic of the tsb it should show production dates affected, if not pls ask for the dates. Thanks

fyi there’s a special alignment tool needed, make sure they get it first or it may cause unnecessary delays

My dealer just received another '24 a Bespoke Blue Mica 2.0/black with blue top and it too was a Feb production; my bet is since there's been a TSB out since ~ late Feb, March production + will have had the misalignment resolved during production. We shall see...
