I recently procured a 2018 LC500 and have gone through the online manual a few times. However, there are a few things I wanted to share that I particularly enjoy about this vehicle that you won't find in the manual:
I can actually fit my two kids in the car: This was my biggest concern about getting an LC instead of a GS-F, but my 10 and 12 year old kids fit fine in the passenger seat and rear seat behind it. I wouldn't take them on a cross-country road trip, but it's fine for shorter trips as long as your kids aren't basketball stars.
The tranny and suspension on the 2018 are just fine: The later versions may have some improvements, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with how the 2018's drive. I actually like a little brute force every now and then to compliment the grunt of the V8.
The entertainment system isn't that bad: Sure, the touchpad takes a bit more effort to use than a touch screen, but after a few days you adapt and learn how to find what you're looking for quickly and easily. I've used Lexus and Toyota touch screens that had problems as well (not to mention the fingerprints) and if this is the worst part of the vehicle then I'm very happy.
This car gets attention: I knew this would be a special vehicle, but underestimated how much joy others would get in seeing it. Even the tint guy was excited to work on the car, which is new to me. I doubt he'd be as excited to work on a 911 since they're a dime a dozen.
I expect reliability: The reason I bought a 2018 is two-fold: I'm a cheap bastard and love a deal, and I fully trust this vehicle will not let me down. My Porsche was very expensive to maintain, and I was always stressed when I took it into the dealership since I hate spend thousands of dollars on unexpected car repairs. I have a 20 year old V8 4Runner that has been rock solid and expect the same from the LC.
It's unique: Scarcity is a benefit of the LC. German cars are well known and plentiful in my area and among my friends. And they're very impressive cars. But no one I know owns an LC so it's not a "me, too" car.
Sure, there are drawbacks to the LC. It's not as fast as some other sports cars. Not as many shops are comfortable working on it. The tire selection isn't great. There are no surround view cameras (this is the biggest bummer for me). The infrared paint is very expensive to repair.
But overall this is one of the best purchases I've ever made as a car guy. I just hope the honeymoon phase lasts as long as it has on my 20 year old 4Runner!
Well said @antidentit ! I've owned 50+ cars in my life (including some classics like an Acura NSX, Datsun 240-Z, three Corvettes, a BMW M3 conv't - BTW which was CRAP, a '69 Camaro Z-28, etc.) and NOTHING compares to the 2023 LC 500 Convertible I've been driving for the last 18 months. This one is a keeper for sure! Thanks for the post, drive yours in good health!
I agree. There are other cool cars out there that I like, but when I get honest with myself, I realize I'm completely satisfied with my LC. Not changing it any time soon.
I like mine so much that after one month of ownership and only 130 miles on it I decided to buy the 10 year extended bumper to bumper warranty because I will not be selling it. It's a very unique experience that not even my Bentley provides.
Yes, life is pretty amazing right now....waiting to get old/retirement home but its not happening..health/physique still like in my 30s:}
We're going way off topic here, but chiming in to say I'm glad to hear you have this. All the money and "fun stuff" in the world can't replace good health.
I'm loving my LC too. Its been 2 years with the vert and ~9000kms but i wouldn't trade her up for anything.
Issues:
Nothing major. Knock on wood.
Only problem was the slight rattle for the passenger center console handle that was remedied within 5 minutes at the dealership.
I have that weird click from the "frame cracking" thread but its so muted and slight that i might just hold off on getting it fixed.
Mods:
Some wheels, that blue wrap and that's it.
Pros:
its just such an fun experience.
The dual personality of the car is fantastic. In comfort mode, its quiet, luxurious, and smooth. You almost cannot feel the 10 speed working and its just a smooth wave of power. However, when you want some excitement, throw it into manual mode and go past 3500rpm while doing a few downshifts. It never gets old.
Its also just fast enough without being ballistic or having suspension so harsh that you need to go see a chiropractor after each run. In other words, its PERFECT for my use case.
2 years on, and it still break necks everywhere I go. The rarity of the car, the wide stance, sultry hips, and gorgeous tight LED cluster makes it like nothing else out there. Ive had people run across traffic to take a picture of it. Ive had a young girl ask me to marry her when she saw me pull up with it, and ive had numerous thumbs up, shout outs and general praise that ive never gotten before when i had my maserati. The douche factor is quite low for a 100k+ car. Everyone from enthusiasts to non enthusiasts love this car.
Cons:
It has very little storage space. The wife has a lot of crap to pack and if we went away for week with the LC, it would be quite challenging to stuff all her junk into the trunk. Of course i can also utilize the parcel shelf behind but i prefer not to out of safety/break in potential.
I recently traded up from my 2015 RC F to the 2018 LC 500 and MAN, what a ride. I bought the Infered Coupe and it has a lot of Road Presence, a lot of parking lot presence. It gets noticed everywhere I go. Not a single one at my country club and all my buds love it. I also have had Mercedes, BMW, Porche, and there is no comparison IMHO.
The office I manage has loads of high-end cars in the parking lot. A guy at work who owns a 2023 BMW M8 asked me the other day why I bought the LC500 over a MB or BMW which produce faster cars in the same price range. I gave all of the usual reasons that we all do...uniqueness, gorgeous exterior/interior, reliability etc. He just texted me 30 minutes ago that he's going to be late tomorrow because his car is showing multiple error codes and he's dropping it off at the dealership in the morning.
