PDR on hood? Or just get a new hood? new to me and excited!
There was a dent on the hood somehow and the chevy dealer I got it from agreed to fix it before delivery with PDR. However when I got there on delivery day (yesterday) they fixed it about 80% of the way with PDR. They said their PDR guy said this is the best he could do with the dent with PDR since it is aluminum. They agreed to take off $300 from the sales price bc it still is noticeable from up close.
I will admit that in some angles even at up close it is hard to see the dent but because I know it is there I would rather just get it fixed because other than a few understandable driveway scrapes the car is cosmeticallly perfect and there are not many options close to me.
I am reading now that aluminum is harder for PDR to do because it is more costly? So probably the dealer just chose the most cost effective way to help out their bottom line? Understandable since they agreed to a deal with me and probably didn't have adequate time to get it just right before delivery. I do see that a lexus dealer close to me has a new LC 500 hood available for $800 so I may as well just do that since there is another quarter sized ding on the hood. I didn't even notice the corn sized ding until I drove home. I do not even know how someone would get a credit card sized dent on the hood lol. Maybe they dropped a tool or something?
How much do you think the dealer made on this car? It is a 2021 1 owner clean carfax with only 2500 miles non CPO. We agreed on 83.7k sales price. I am guessing the dealer paid around 75k as a trade in? I think I could have gotten it for around 81k in October but I had to pay the summer premium because it is for my parents and my father really wanted a convertible. BAT auctions were going for around 80k after the buyer fee.
Thank you all! I really do believe toyota is KNOCKING IT OUT OF THE PARK the past few years with design. Even the new prius is beautiful!!
I wouldn't trust what the Chevy dealer PDR guy says. Take it to a reputable PDR shop and they should be able to tell you within a few minutes what they can do with both dings.
A new $800 hood has to be paint matched and installed.
I know its not the same, but this reminds me of another thread on here discussing the extra warranties they attempt to sell you at the dealership.
I can't think of any time I would have ever needed that as a warranty. I would just pay outright for it if needed.
The windshield warranty.. I have also never had a crack in my windshield that my own insurance wouldn't cover for free.
The wheel warranty? I see the benefit of that if you drive a lot but with a Sunday driver if something happened that I needed to use that service, again, I would just pay out right for it because I don't see it would be something I would use multiple times while it's valid.
Covering the tires themselves I could see being useful but most tire places give you a warranty on tires when they are new so I dunno.
Definitely avoid repaint.
Try another PDR guy. If you put in your profile where you live maybe we could help you. I have a great guy in Phoenix.
$300 was not enough compensation.
+1 for "get a second opinion", some PDR guys only use the glue pullers, some have tools that they can push the dent out from behind. Not sure how much access there is behind this spot, there's a dust cover in the way.
if U go to body shop it might show on carfax and others as a hit and "diminished value" sets in and its hefty...NEVER believe what a dealer salesperson tells U...if his lips are moving, he's lying.
