How do you protect Polar Surge Satin?
#16
Can you put a wrap on top of a satin finish? Will doing so damage it? (It seems like everything you need to do when applying a wrap is the opposite of how you’d want to baby an intentionally “rough” satin finish.) Is there a ceramic type finish to add to a satin? (Factory paint or wrap.) Thanks.

Check out this video showing a 2024 LC500 Ultimate Edition (Inspiration Series) getting Suntek matte film full body PPF, including decontamination process:

- You can clay a matte car? I thought that was a no-no. Him finding a factory paint defect that you can’t polish out is one of my biggest fears about matte.
- I know that you need the squeegee to get the PPF on, but I clenched up a bit seeing it go back and forth. It terrifies me that such action could be polishing the factory paint under the PPF, even if just in single lines here and there, and I’d really want to see what the paint looks like after the film is removed. That worries me.
- I was less worried around the gas tank as he used painter’s tape, but seeing the X-acto knife on the canards on the front bumper freaked me out a lot. Again, I’d like to see what that looks like after removal.

Doesn’t sound like you’re ready for matte finish. Lol
Enjoy the car. Don’t worry too much. If you want to find imperfections, you will find it. Nothing is perfect. Even a 11miles on the ODO or if you’ve picked it off fresh from the truck. It just the nature of transport and port install and the guy who drove the car around the lot to make sure the car is sellable. My car was picked up with 5miles on the ODO and I still had it paint corrected before PPF. I saw a customer walked out and ran his fingers on another LC on display as he walked by. Things like that nobody can control.
The more OCD you are, the more you’ll find things that will bother you. In the grand scheme of things, just remember the reason why you bought the car. If youre OCD about the paint of the car, matte isn’t for you. It’ll drives you nuts.

I just used Dr. Beasley's Matte Paint Coating, which is an DIY ceramic coating for matte and satin paint. You can have it professionally ceramic coated as well. Finally, they do have ppf for matte paint cars but the one time I saw one done in person I thought it changed the appearance ever so slightly.

Let’s face it. We all want to keep the car indefinitely going into it. But the reality is, we all can’t tell. I see many super excited new LC owners but after the honeymoon, they’re nowhere to be found. Let see how many of us in this thread are left after 2 years.
There’s many used LC on the market with fewer than 10k miles.

Would be interesting to know how many of those people truly got bored of it or just ceased to stop liking it enough to get rid of it.

I'm always confused seeing that. I wonder if it's people who bought the car expecting it to be one thing and then didn't enjoy it? Or people who bought it but then find they don't drive it enough to justify the cost? Or people who buy it as placeholder then see what they really want all along come up and move out of it?

2018 MY but bought in May 2017 with less than 8k miles.
Didn’t even make to 500miles before the rear got damaged. But kept it more than 7 years with 8k on the ODO and sold it.
Truly puzzled. I mean if you love the car, I would think you drive it more, no? And if you don’t why keep it for so long?

If you like white, just buy it. If there’s any issue with the paint, put gloss PPF to turn it to White Pearl . Or put matte PPF to stay with the satin look. I didn’t mean to discourage you from getting what you want. I just don’t think you should be overthinking about the paint finish too much. EVERY car has imperfections if you want to find them, you will. It’s a first world problem.

I think that these are often third or fourth cars for older couples, and more than a few are owned by little old ladies who don’t drive them. Seriously. This started with the E46 M3 Convertible where the M was no longer for enthusiasts but instead “the best BMW convertible.” Lexus already trends older, so when a guy who has been buying the LS model every few years since the ‘90s wants “the best Lexus convertible” for himself or his wife, he’s getting an LC with no understanding of its capabilities.
