Wife found a discolored spot on a fine leather sofa, called in a repairman. He repaired and also told her it was probably due to someone (me) sitting without a shirt on. He said body oils were one of the worst things you could get on leather, which brings my question. Will oils from our hands ruin the wheel leather over time? Have never worn driving gloves but maybe time to consider, What say our experts?

I doubt it. I have a leather wrapped steering wheel on my 10 year old GS with no visible wear, and I rarely clean or condition it.
Granted it's black so not sure if same would hold true for lighter colors but with Lexus, steering wheel wear doesn't seem to be a common complaint. Just make sure to clean and condition it once in a while

Body oils from sweaty areas like the torso are also different than the oils from our hands

Thanks for the re-assurance. I have never liked gloves--even in cold weather.

Hair oil is one of the worst. My 50k miles RX headrest has a smooth and sticky at the same time texture. Luckily the headrest is one of the easier part to replace.

I'd probably be more concerned about the center console cover, no matter my seat position my arm winds up resting there and with the top down, well sweat (my interior is black though, just no SUNSCREEN). In my Aircraft days, we mostly had problems with lighter colored seats and blue jeans. The blue would basically stain the seat bottoms requiring cleaning/coloring of the seat. We weren't able to tell high net-worth Customers they couldn't wear blue jeans on their Aircraft.

I've had leather covered steering wheels in different shades (either OEM or WheelSkins) for 20 years. Never had an issue
