Brakes
#256
I haven't read about squeaky brakes until this thread. I don't think it's an issue anymore, right? But since I won't track the car, hope it comes with the less dusty pads, if I end up getting one. I don't want black wheels, and silver ones look like crap in no time with dusty pads. The good news is I could just buy the 'touring' pads, and be done with it. I don't think Lexus would replace them for free unless they're squealing, no? And I'd be okay with that. I'd change them along with the runflats. But since I don't want a car with Alcantara seats, it should be a 'touring' model, with no RWS, VRS, spoiler, or sport pads, which is the way I want it. But it's turning out to be a unicorn, so we'll see.

I have the touring package and I'm getting the most irritating squeal. 24k miles.

Wait, so the touring pads are the ones with the squealing problem??? Interesting. Anyway, I'm sure quiet aftermarket pads (like ceramic ones) should be available for LCs, no? It shouldn't be too difficult or expensive to fix, I'd assume. I could also live with the more aggressive ones if they don't squeal, at the cost of having to clean the wheels more often. That I could live with.

I was getting an occasional squeal from my 2018 so I decided to wait a while/ more miles, then bring it in. They put in new brakes all around at 23.5K mi year ago now have 29K mi, no issues at all.
I believe the newer year LC's no longer have this issue and haven't heard of any of late.

^^^^On the newer ones, the Hi-Po pads are now only on the Sport package and Dynamic Handling package. Other models get the lower performance pads.
Note - I have posted this before, but I have a 2018 Touring package LC. I bedded the pads in properly when I picked up the car. I have never had any noise come from my brakes.

But that TSB only mentions up to MY 2021. So technically, that TSB doesn't cover newer cars, even though the brakes/pads didn't change, right? So it'd have to be out of good will, I guess. Or maybe complaining to Lexus corporate could help. Anyway, Lexus should update that TSB if they didn't change the pads after that TSB.

^^^^^Yes the pads did change. In MY2022 and above the Base and Touring package models come equipped with the lower performing TSB pads. The Sport and Dynamic Handling packages kept the higher performing pads previously supplied on all LC models.

Oh, okay. Thanks for the info. And what about if you don't like the squealing on your sport/dynamic LC? Tough luck? Ha ha. Just curious. Unless you're going to track such a car (which I wouldn't; much better options for that), squealing and/or excessive dust get old fast. At least for me.

^^^^I have the HiPo pads on my 2018. I bedded them in properly upon delivery. Yes, I have dust, buy my pads have never made any noise I have posted this many times on this forum, but it seems to fall on deaf ears

Thanks to this thread I was able to replace the performance brake pads on my 2020 with the non-performance ones under warranty at a Lexus dealership. Had to show them the TSB as they weren't aware of it. Brake squeals are gone!

The 2018 LC500 I just purchased has very sqeaky brakes so I was hoping to leverage the TSB for this, but it looks like it only applies to those vehicles still under warranty:

^^^^No, it is not too late to bed-in the brakes. Just do it properly to generate enough heat. I have the Hi-Po pads on my LC. The first thing I did when I picked up my LC was to bed-in the brakes. I have no noise and my pads have a nice feel and good performance.
