IMO, taking off the top takes away one of the most attractive part of the LC, the roofline.

Maybe so, but being in southern most Southern California having the top down is what drivings about. Wind, running through my thinning hairline, sun beating down, favorite tunes blasting, there’s nothing better on weekend afternoon.
