you're entitled to your opinion of how 'most LC owners' drive, or have you done a survey? and i suspect there's a good bit of difference between coupe and convertible drivers, and no, i've not done a survey.

Bit, I am only restating an assertion that you posted on 03-06-22 and that statement was that “ i expect most lc's are driven pretty gently. and with few miles.” I assumed that you had more expert knowledge with how LC owners drive and did not question it since it was a true statement in my case. Apparently, it was true for you too, since you said it. Assuming your original statement was correct, I doubted you would notice any difference. You said.

i do assume that (as i said i think convertible owners in particular, judging from loads of posts on here, enjoy cruising around with the top down, nothing wrong with that!), but that doesn't mean i drive mine 'pretty gently'. mine is my fun car, and so i like winding the revs, pushing it in corners, feeling it all do its work, etc.

anyway, this thread is about after market wheels. if you want stylish wheels and don't care about performance, good for you. i want both. lots of people have shown they bought wheels to have wider tires, not just for looks, but for grip, as well as lighter wheels to improve handling.

there really isnt much choices for a 21" rims, all the rims i like make you have to go down a size to 20. Any big difference in looks on the 20's? 22" are even more rare.

^^^^ Huh In the aftermarket there certainly is a choice in 21" wheels. I'm on third party, Vossen, wheels, Some other members have also posted pics of their non-Lexus wheels.

For japanese wheels in the correct size, bolt pattern, and offset, pickings are slim. A few from Rays (one of the more unknown sub-brands - definitely nothing from Volk or Gram Lights), I think the Advan F series forged (nothing else from Advan, especially not their delicious RS series). There are some good options from SSR (the executor CV04s being my favourite from the brand). But I eventually went with Work - plenty of options, 1 piece, 2 piece, or 3 piece with proper offsets and TPMS support, and Work is about as JDM as one can get which is a great combo for something like an LC500. The downside is they are not light wheels, but then again, neither is an LC500

Seems like the widest anyone has gone up front is 9.5". I'm just curious if anyone has gone wider or not.

Geez nevermind, I saw someone ran 22x10 up front as well.

Rays used to have 2 models 21"+ both under their Volk Racing brands for 5x120 PCD.
G25Edge: 22" (as per picture below). This used to come in either 20" or 22" and has been discontinued.
GT090: 21". Website only has it in 20" (used to have it in 21" for 5x120) but I believe you can special indent it at the Rays dealership

For non Volks - There is also Homura 2X15BD as well.

21" size or 5x120 PCD aren't only meaningful parameters. Plenty of BMW's use those so there are million different wheels which would work on LC if those were only things affecting wheel choice. Problem is practically all older model BMW's up to about 10 years ago use M12 diameter bolts. Therefore some aftermarket wheels which would work in other ways do not have M14 holes LC requires. While more 20-22" wheels come available for late BMW's which has same M14 as LC it will also get more choices. Its also possible some aftermarket manufacturers simply do not know their products might fit LC's as size is most common in Japanese cars.

BBS Japan has few models which fit LC. For some reason for example Tirerack do not list RZ-D at all.

TSW has plenty of choice.

Okay so this is sad, but I've never bought a full set of staggered aftermarket wheels so i don't know what I'm doing

Current stock wheel setup is 21x8.5 on the front and 21x9.5 on the rear

Tire aspect ratio is also different with the front being 245/40 and rears are 275/35

if i wanted to go down a size to 20's (i cant seem find a decent japanese wheel brands in 21inches without paying insane money)

how much bigger aspect ratio wise for tires do i need ?

Will the speedo need recalibration if i go down a size and how the hell do i recalibrate the speedo?

What brand is sort of best bang for the buck Advan? Enkei? Rays? im trying to stick to japanese wheels.

There is no need to do anything to speedo as long as you select 20" tires which have same rolling diameter as stock 21's. Plus sizing works in both directions.
https://www.tyresizecalculator.com
Easiest solution is to use exact same 20" rubber size LC500 gets from factory, front 245/45 and rear 275/40. There are small differences between different tire modes with same nominal size but its so small it doesn't make any difference. Also wheels do not have to be exact same width as stock setup. Tire manufacturer wheel width range recommendation for each specific tire should be followed.

not quite that simple... depends if you go with same wheel WIDTHS too as the sidewall height is the width (mm) of the tire / the 'ratio' (40, 35, etc). the overall diameter of the tire is 2x the sidewall height (top and bottom ) plus the diameter of the wheel (20, 21).

but assuming you go with 20" wheels that are the same size (widths) as factory, then just get the same size tires as on the factory 20's (sorry, haven't looked that up). make sense?

Will the speedo need recalibration if i go down a size and how the hell do i recalibrate the speedo?
if you go down a wheel size, then you get tires that have a correspondingly taller sidewall to make the overall rolling diameter similar or the same, this no recalibration needed, not that you can do it anyway i don't believe. even if quite 'far off' your speedo is likely only going to be a percent or two off.
