Apple CarPlay for 2018 models?
#34
Just to relay my experiences on adding Alexa to my 2018 LS and my 2018 LC. Last week brought LS to dealer. Took overnight to download and install Lexus plus Alexa and it works perfectly.
On Monday brought LC 500 to same dealer. Today is Wednesday and no success. In fact, they burned Nav unit and radio. Need to replace both-they say parts cost 15K and they, of course, are responsible. Perhaps by next week new parts will have been installed and upgrade done properly. In the meantime, I have a nice loaner.
Do Not Attempt to upgrade yourself!

So not sure if this is dealer specific but I just upgraded a few days ago free of charge. I got an email 2 months ago from my dealership saying if I bring my car in by 8/31/2019 for my 5k or 10k service, then they will give me a free upgrade for Car Play.

It's at the dealers discretion whether they charge you or not.

It is possible in the 2018 LC. Lexus gave every dealership the software for the update for free as a customer satisfaction tool. But, there is a $200 fee for the time the technician has to take to do the update (takes between 45min to and hour). Some dealerships have been known to do it for free, while others (like mine) do charge as we are a smaller Lexus dealership compared to some within about 500 miles.

Its totally lame Lexus is charging for this. Near six-figure car, and theyre squeezing extra $200 for this. The $200 for labor is total BS, 1 minute to initiate the install, another minute to verify. 58 minutes doing something else. An in-car camera would verify this, and hold Lexus accountable for the inflated fake labor charge.

So now with the release of the 2021 convertible, they will be including Android Auto:
"For 2021, the LC Convertible will feature Android Auto, allowing you to seamlessly cast your device’s interface onto the vehicle’s multimedia display. Play your music via your favorite apps such as Spotify® and Pandora®, send messages through a range of commonly used apps like WhatsApp®, navigate with Google Maps™, and request information—all with just the sound of your voice—through the Google Assistant™."
Even though I've already contacted Lexus HQ with my question, and they didn't give me a straight answer, do you guys think that AA backwards compatibility will be a possibility?

Certainly hoping for AA to be backwards compatible. Lexus Australia will be charging $199 for AA software.
Lexus will definitely lose some loyal customers, if they don't upgrade at all for 2018/19 models or charge for it.
