Hello all.. post #1 here (I'll be back with a formal intro later with pics)

Found what I feel was a good deal on a 2018 (only 3500 miles)

Anyhow.. had service appointment this morning to code for CarPlay. Well, as it turns out the dealer says it failed as the car was "not compatible"

I checked the VIN with Lexus, says "compatible"
Spoke with Lexus corp, says "compatible"

I really like this dealer, they have always been excellent. I'm at a bit of a loss on my next move. They are looking into it,.

CarPlay Is a major requirement for me (80% of buyers strongly prefer having CarPlay or Android Auto)

I could try another dealer, I will have to pay for upgrade there no doubt. I'm not terribly bothered, but I really like where I purchased the car.

Maybe I need a new head unit or something?

Has anybody else had this experience? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I would get a hold of the local Lexus Rep for that dealership. 2018's are all upgradable. The dealership may not have the down load info or the tech to help to bring it up to date.

Appreciate the reply

I may.. I suppose I'll give them a little time to look into it. I would feel bad "going over their head"

Has anyone ever come across this issue with a LC500?

I bought a 2018 last November (only 1500 miles!) from a dealer i Buffalo. They tried the upgrade and it failed at first. On second try, the upgrade took just fine. Might be a little trial and error that's needed.

My head unit got fried when they tried to update my CarPlay. It was in the shop over 3 weeks because the part was on back order. It can be done. Directions must be followed to a T by an experienced service tech. Good luck!

I took my new to me 2018 to the dealer today to have them add Apple Car Play. They were not able to make it happen after two hours of trying. They gave me the mechanic shrug as to why. We'll call you after we try and find out why it did not work. I left but did get the oil changed. Is it really that difficult or not compatible? There is another dealer some distance from my house I can try.

They used Valvoline Synthetic. That is all they have at this Dealership that they use across the fleet I was told.
I received a call back from another MI. Lexus dealer that told me the 2018 LC can not be retrofitted with Apple Car Play or Android. That I have to go to an aftermarket third party. I'm left to believe that this forum is full of threads and posts that lie! sarcasum

Over all the forum as discussions happen, there are those that are where u r and the info shared is tried and true. Others? Well they weed themselves out. Dont be discouraged, its mostly good.

Actually is was your dealer who lied He was correct about Android Auto, but DEAD WRONG about Apple Car Play.

And Yes, I agree there is a lot of misinformation on the web. BUT, calling those answered your post liars is not very good forum etiquette. Lie is a very strong word, I would be careful when using it. I used it above, because the dealer should know better. Maybe time to find a new dealer.

That went sideways. I know that the information here is usually pretty solid. Many times better than the dealer has. What I meant to convey was something else. The dealership experience was less than I expected. I called them back today to see if they were able to sort it out. They have no clue as to what or why the download did not install. Stay tuned.
