I use the paddles about 10% of the time, I enjoy using them more now because you run through the rpm range so much more quickly now and you get to shift more often. The modes behave exactly the same as before

For the second question, probably yes but I havent had to make a warranty claim (or told my dealer I swapped the diff, which also happens to be cosmetically identical to the stock one. I'll just leave it at that)

just curious how much it affected your Highway cruising RPM? Probably not that big of a deal with the 10 speed trans, but I was curious. Nice work!

The drive modes do affect downshifts, depending on a host of factors like rpm, speed, braking strength, whether manual shift mode is engaged etc. There are probably others who know more about this than me though. All i can say for sure is that the behaviour of the modes are the same with the old vs new diff

Using about 100kmh (62mph) as a reference, its only about 100-200rpm higher in 10th gear. It barely affects highway rpm/cruise consumption

i did this years ago with my gs400 - switching out to the supra 3.76 torsen lsd diff. absolutely amazing. also switched out the stock torque converter for one made by dragon... the combo was amazeballs.

anyway, congrats for leading the way on this!

now i'm wondering what an lc500h diff costs...

of all the mods to our babes strewn hereabout, this one has gotta be the best: shorter gears ! and straight out of a sister 500h.
simple, straightforward, plug and play ...
somebody was a genius to figure this out

There’s got to be a downside. If performance can be markedly enhanced just by changing out differential, then why doesn’t Toyota just do it??? I am not a Motorhead, but from an engineering standpoint, maybe it causes some unnatural stresses to some other component in the drivetrain??? If there is any chance that it could affect vehicle warranty, then Toyota must know something.

as sick said, one downside is reduced fuel economy (not much).
another is with the changed gearing the car can feel 'touchy' (quick response to throttle). not a bad thing to me but can make some drivers become more 'jerky'.

Fuel economy is the big one. They also probably made a good bet that most LC owners don’t care about it being slightly quicker, and with the aggressive traction control it would be hard to make use of anyways. Almost any car can be made quicker with lower gears, it looks a bit more attractive on the LC because there are so few ways to increase power and most are not significant upgrades.
