Default Loved the LC, but moved on

The Lexus LC is a wonderful car, great around town or on a long trip, or just sitting there in the garage looking great. They are not common, and people really like them. That sound is wonderfully toned, the power is very good, and the tech is extensive. The touchpad can be just fine, fun to use.

We’ve had some positive developments and choose to move to another direction. Have had Lotus cars in past and missed the athleticism.

It took a bit of a hunt but we were able to locate the spec we wanted and made the trade.

Made sure to pass all the manuals, both keys, first aid kit, everything including the original window sticker along for the next owner.

We were lucky to have that red LC with us. You guys enjoy!

My heart sank when I saw the pic of your new car. I had a Mclaren (from new), by far the worst car I ever had. Poor build quality and never ending electronic issues. It spent more time in the shop than my garage. Keep us posted.

The older McLarens certainly had issues. I think the newer ones have ironed out a lot of the problems.

Here's Tyler Hoover explaining why he dumped his used MP4-12C after six months of ownership -

This is a nineteen, 570S, Papaya spark.

I’ve had very good experiences in past with “fragile” cars. We traded our Bentley Continental for the Lexus a year ago partly to have more peace of mind. The Lexus nearly bullet proof, but did strand me three times with the fuel pump issue. Easily fixed though, and Lexus were absolutely great about it.

Initial impressions:

Lexus wins: about as well tuned sound as there is. Downshifts bark! LC has far far better tech. The Mac is basic, controls intuitive and enough but no more. The Mac satellite radio won’t hold a signal more than two minutes. It’s finicky to find the key to start the car. The Lexus seats are great, and it’s as dependable as about anything. LC has Carplay. Luggage space. Maintenance costs far far less. Insurance too.

McLaren wins: even though the LC is a real eye catcher, head turner, the Mac is a whole another level. People can’t believe they are seeing it. The LC is rare but the Macs are more so. The sound is racy and violent, very deep, fills a tunnel. The power is amazing. Sooooo much faster than an LC. Like a rocket! Can hurtyour head as the brain shifts backwards, it seems. Sudden shifting. Those doors, supercar stuff. Suspension and power train are adjustable, and really make a difference compared to the LC. Can be supple over bumps (Lotus like) and fearless at a turn of the switches. Sound system has warmth, not sharp and digital like the Lexus.

Will report on the experience as we go along.

Beautiful car, fingers crossed for no issues. Definitely a fun machine!

Just curious - did you consider waiting for the new hard-top Corvette convertible (or coupe)? Mid-engine, dual clutch, supercar performance and looks. Apparently, for about the same price as the 570, you can get one in every color (OK, maybe 3 or 4 colors). Although, the entire 2020 allocation "may" be spoken for (seems to be some debate on that). Yeah, I know - you'll also need to buy a Silverado to collect the parts as they fall off, but man - $60K for a C8?!?! That's a whole lot of performance for the money. That is a beautiful Papaya Spark 570 for sure. Best of luck with it. Enjoy!

We saw several C8 at Petit LeMans this year, including a track prepped one. It’s sound reminded my son and I of F1 cars back in the V8 non turbo glory days. Really.

We’ll see if anyone ever gets a nice C8 for under $80K. Chevy dealers around here can’t keep a C7 on the lot.

I was quite impressed by the car. Just look like a bunch of fun. Build quality was not very good but these are pretty much preproduction that we saw.

These cars look to shake up the sports car world and could greatly affect sales of a lot of other cars including the LC. For us, we just had a change of circumstances and went for something over the top. I have been a Lotus person for decades and this car has plenty of that sort of personality with a bunch more power. Really too much for me to track like our Lotus. My skill is just not to that level. Not to really push its limits, try to tear out the brakes and really use that much power.

Honestly, I could imagine having a Vette sometime, had this discussion with my brother today. There are long threads on this in every sports car forum. But how long until we see several every day?

For now, the truly exotic McLaren is a great life experience. Our hearts were jumping at a stop light today just in anticipation of what was about to happen.

The new ones have issues as well, just check the forums. McLaren's problem is they don’t make a specific model for any length of time to iron out the issues. They’re always working on “the next one”. They have a goal of 3 new models per year. Mind you some of those are limited models.
