Lexus IS looking into a fix but they have nothing yet.

This is definitely the worst location I've ever seen for a sub. Its a shame that Lexus couldn't design something better for their halo car.

Still going to see what Lexus says and take it by the audio shop but this fixed the problem without losing any sound.

Why is it "the worst" location? I think I've seen other cars with similar setups.

Been driving Lexus vehicles since 1998. This is my first experience with any vehicle where the factory sub was placed in the rear seat. Apparently it is not a preferred location because a seat placement is a rarely used option. Most are are mounted on the rear deck. But because of limited available mounting options, ML sound engineers opted to squeeze it into the rear limited use rear seat. I am not an sound engineer, but this position was probably chosen because it was the most cost effective solution. And they probably concluded that for a majority of their customers that this would be ok. Buyers of this LC would not be purchasing this car for the stereo sound system. However, Lexus did feel it important to pipe in external engine sounds directly into the passenger cabin. If bass notes were that important, a similar process could have been used to pipe in bass notes. There are systems available today that do just that. In lieu of all the engineering constraints in designing and building the LC, subwoofer placement was not very high on the list. Kinda reminds me of the touch pad that they just stuck on the LS500. At least it looks better from an aesthetic point of view.

I'd say it's easy for you to say what they should have done.

and since it's in between the two useless back seats, and doesn't eat trunk space, i'd say it's a great use of available space.

yup, they could have mounted it on the roof too

i'm glad it's where it is as that space is useless anyway. But i don't play music that often in the LC.

it’s foam window sealant tape: it’s about 1/2” thick and 1/2” wide.

Driving back from a Tennis match an hour away today I just reached back and pulled that evil subwoofer cover off, slung it somewhere, and enjoyed a completely different sound system. I thought the resonances were coming from all over but this sub cover was the whole problem.

So how do we avoid this question:

DID ANYONE AT LEXUS LISTEN TO THE SOUND SYSTEM WITH VOLUME OVER 40 WITH POPULAR MUSIC?

It’s pretty clear no one did.

But should be an easy fix. Just mail us all some insulation strips ☺️

.

foam kept coming lose with the base hitting. Cut the plastic off the back and it works great, it’s like the cover isn’t on. No rattle at all. I’ll clean up the edges tomorrow.
