After owning both an 18 & 23 LC notice a large sound difference whether exhaust flaps connected or not and yes would really think the convertible should definitely be louder, but it isn't.. Can't find any support of OPF filters either!

Have you guys ever try unplug on side and leave one side plugged in ! I was thinking unplug on the driver side and leave it plugged on the pass side !

Thanks fellows, I've disconnected the valves, it has 2500 miles, it does not growl at lower speeds and definitely does not have a hi pitch or wail at all at higher RPMs. My 2018 (in park) actually snapped at 3500 or so. So as I had indicated in my earlier post people listening to it all ask why it is much quieter.. Don't want to spend $ on A/M exhaust if this is an actual issue with the car being several years newer and the factory has changed some ECU settings, etc.. Thanks

On a completely unrelated note: I recently drove an IS500 and it was far louder than the LC500. Not sure if it had the exhausted valves mod but it was loud. Anybody else able to validate?

The IS500 produces fake engine noise generated trough the internal speakers (the LC500 does not have this). The IS500 is definitely quieter than an LC500 from the outside, you can check out stock exhaust rev clips on youtube to see for yourself

The difference you hear might be related to the packing material in the muffler/cats being worn out on the older exhaust. Older exhausts tend to get louder over time due to this and it would probably explain the difference. I've spent a lot of time extensively going over the stock exhausts and I only found one difference between a pre-2020 coupe and a post 2020 coupe/vert and that is the fact that on the newer cars, a part of the muffler pipe is slightly flattened to accomodate extra chassis braces. This is highly unlikely to affect the sound signature on the car.

try plugging the valves back in and seeing if you see any difference.

I unplugged the valves for about 3000kms now and i think i might plug them back in. Its only really noticeable around the 3000-5000rpm range. Anything higher and it goes quiet for some reason.

When i had the valves plugged in normally it seems to sound better all the way to redline. If you scan the car, there actually is an code saying there's an exhaust malfunction when you unplug the valves. But it doesnt register a check engine light. Anyways, i also think it has to do with the engine temps and type of gasoline we use. I found that if i use a 91 grade gas that has 10% ethanol then it pops more. If i use pure gasoline like shell 93, or Chevron 94 then its less pops and cracks.

I un-plugged and re-plugged the exhaust connectors today and it made all the difference in the world. Thanks for the suggestions, anyone that had experienced this also just needs to reset them, probably like a reboot on a computer! It now sounds as good or better than my 2018 LC as I took it for a ride w/roof down. Thanks Badhobz & others that offered suggestions.

So, just to be clear. What did you do to the car ?
Did you unplug and drive it for awhile and then plug it back in or something ?

The first unplugging did nothing but make the car quieter. So after some suggestions earlier in this post, plugged in and then unplugged again and then they defaulted to stay open.

I did mine just now, again ! I unplugged from the top ( trunk on the left side, blue connectors ). It sounds a bit louder but then i can hear the valve starting to close the flap that makes it quieter again.
