Hello everyone I'm looking to buy a preowned LC500 in the next year or two. It'll be my daily driver so I plan to put around 20k miles on it each year. I read the manual it looks like LC will need oil change every 5k miles. That means one service visit every 3 months. how much does each 5k and 10k service visit cost? any other big ticket items besides the 30k visit? Are you getting your service done at lexus dealership or can Toyota dealership or independent shop can do the work too? I want the 21 inch wheels how often will tires need to be changed and what does it cost for all 4 tires? I will keep the car until the wheels fall off so it will likely be around 200k miles before retiring her. I'm trying to anticipate total ownership cost before pulling the trigger. I too am considering a nice used LC in the future. Like any expensive luxury car, Only buy it if you can afford the what if's. I would really never consider driving one daily. If you can't keep a daily beater as well it may not be a good everyday car. That depends on climate and parking for you. Seems like I would stay away from the rear steering option if possible. Haven't heard of issues but that seems like an item to maintain and repair in the future. The engine should be basic V8 Lexus. No turbos or superchargers to wear out. This is why I like the car. I have an 2002 SC430 that is nearly perfect and has performed well as a weekend car.

Better check the full coverage insurance before you worry about maintenance costs. That would be my concern. Lexus dealer services visits are great experiences but not for budget watchers. But, sometimes a $150 oil change is cheap vs a Wal Mart oil change blown engine. Tires can be priced at Tire Rack's cost pricing tool so that is an easy estimate. I can't imagine brakes being a common replacement issue. Other than those three items, It is a basic V8 Lexus so it should run forever if cared for.

 

I'm 150-200 miles from dealers. I had my oil changed once at a Toyota dealer and once with a local shop. It requires a not so easy to get filter and a lot of oil. 80 something dollars each time.

 

Thanks for the reply. Where I live the nearest lexus dealership is 30 miles away but there's a Toyota dealership 5 miles away. I am using a local indy shop for my E class therefore i'm wondering if an indy shop can do the maintenance for the LC too.

 

That's not bad. what about the 10k cabin filter change? is it easy to do it yourself?

Filter is very easy top get. It's shared with the Truck V8s (Lexus and Toyota) and the Lexus F cars (PN 04152-YZZA4). I used the same filter in my ISF. Personally, I now use a Wix XP I change my own oil

Tell that to my people here! The Toyota got the wrong one first. And then the next time my local shop took almost a month to get one. I was in no hurry, so don't know why on either.

Wrong, it is because dealers do a cheap mineral oil change for the complimentary service. Get a good full-syn oil and you will be fine with 10k mile or even 15k.

If you use Michelin Super Pilot Sport(I think it is the best non-track performance tire), with 21inch wheel it should cost you $1800-2000 for a whole set. The tire has a warranty of 30k miles, so I guess you may need a new set every 2 years, assuming no excessively racing.

 

^^^^Your Incorrect on a couple of points:

Dealers, at least my dealer, should ask what type of oil you want. However, I change my own oil. I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum with a WixXP filter. I still change every 5K milles - My choice however, I would not exceed 10K miles.

On tires - The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 has been out of production for a number of years and was superseded by the Pilot Super Sport.

The Michelin Pilot Super Sport has been superseded by the Michelin Pilot Sport S4. I run The PSS4 on my LC on after market Wheels in 255/40/21 and 295/35/21 sizes.

The Mileage Warranty figures you posted are not accurate - The LC runs staggered sizes (different front to rear) as such Michelin cuts the mileage warranty in half on the rear tires - 15K Miles.

When I bought my tires, I paid $1,550. with tax.

1. you can pay extra to get high grade oil (dealers wont reject that) but the complimentary oil change is mineral oil, which is the reason why LC is said to have a 5k interval. I use Penzoil ultra plat too, every 10k miles. Unless you are doing a heavy racing style driving, even if you stuck in traffic like bay area everyday, 5k seems too frequent for me. It surely wont hurt your car, but it hurts your wallet & time.
2. I know ps4s is the latest performance summer tire, but it does not have the size for my OEM 21' wheel. The exact tire warranty does not matter, as it has a difficult procedure to claim it (even wear on both tires & the difference need to be smaller than 1mm, regular receipt for tire maintainance) The 30k number or 15k number provided can serve as a lower bound for life expectation.

 

^^^^You're right, the PS4S doesn't come in the stock sizing for the front, however a 255/40/21 tire will fit your 8½" wide wheel. For the Rear the PS4S is available in your stock size.

Thanks. For the oil change I'd rather pay more for ful-syn oil and not to change oil every 5k miles. will the maintenance minder pop up every 5k miles or 10k miles?
I want the touring package with 21 inch wheels and glass roof. is this combo possible? are 21 inch wheels staggered? I'm asking because my current ride has staggered setup so a 40k tires only last 20k......
