Rumor Suggests That the LC F Has Sadly Been Cancelled
By Brett Foote

Turns out, the LC F might be dead before we even knew it. Sigh.

There's already a thread on that subject:

We all have a few things in common here, mostly our enjoyment of these cars. On rare occasion, someone may post something that may be duplicate, and that's OK with me. I may have missed it and I find all these threads interesting, duplicate or original.

Flowrider, for the most part your posts and replies are enjoyable to read and I often learn from you. I can appreciate your knowledge and effort to keep us owners up to date. What bothers me is when someone replies with "It's already been discussed" and a link. Honestly, it comes across as condescending. Let's all just read and enjoy one and another's thoughts.

The truth is that R&D has been paused (as an insider put it) due to corona virus and Toyota's inability to keep all projects ongoing in Japan. Does that mean the LCF is cancelled? No, at least not yet.

LC R&D for 24 hours of Nurburging has also been halted and apparently they aren't racing this year.

Personally, I like that Lou flags these posts - especially when they come from a content editor that should know how to search before re-posting duplicate news. Posting updates to an existing thread brings them back to the top so others will see them. That's much better than creating numerous duplicate threads IMO. Thanks Lou!

Who are these curators?

I didn’t join this wonderful forum for a long time, but about 3-4 articles I read by curator are quite boring..... close to ad some times. Very displeased....

Our own forum members are sufficient to make this forum active and a place to enjoy.

Don’t know the history here, but..... I don’t see the meaning of these ad like posts.

Lou

This writer constantly re-posts stories or articles that other content curators have already written about. Rarely does he post original content. I have called out other posts by him, and there is no response from him, or whomever is in charge of the "News" stories that are posted here. As a forum site, I really like CL, but as far as a "news" site, it could be better imo.

Default Maybe it Should Be Cancelled

Honestly. I mean, it looks really cool. It's packed with technology. It's Lexus. But, I think their target market has shrunk to the point that it's not going to do as well in their product line as Lexus needs it to perform. Don't get me wrong, I lament its cancellation as well.

What I would like Lexus to do is bring back the SC, but not try and aim too high. While the 2021 LC line will include a convertible, that market has lost share, regardless of brand. However, that's also leaving a gap in the market, and the pendulum will swing the other way (eventually). Plus, Lexus needs to get it priced so that it carries everything we've come to love with Lexus but at a price point that more people can afford to get one. These cars aren't primary for many households; quite the contrary, they are secondary (and in our household, tertiary, coming after my Tundra truck). But at $101K (starting), that's just out of touch with the market.

This says a great deal. It's totally dead. Toyota NEVER abandons a trademark so abruptly, as they did for LCF on August 24, 2020. Some 5 weeks after your post in fact. I held out hope, but now I am confident it is dead.

Not shocked. I'll be surprised if the LC500 makes it past 2023.

That is a shame. That probably means F cars are dead too, no V8 for the failed LS500, Lexus really becoming a more 2nd Tier lux brand.

not necessarily... the entire industry is changing. AMG for example will come to mean electric in the next few years, not V8.

There is a lot of conflicting info. I am sorry, because one thing is the case and then the other surprises me. Apparently, the last time this engine (U40A-FTS) twin turbo V8 was showcased, was 5 1/2 months after the LCF trademark abandonment date.

It was inside an LC in Las Vegas, behind closed doors. LC 500 F-Sport Performance might be an LC with this new engine for maybe $120k, but not the F bits?

So yes, those upset about the lack of full on F models, might have a point.
