Default 10 Speed Auto

I test drove a 2021 model LC500, and had massive delays when trying to get the power out of it. In all driving modes I would floor it past the overdrive detent and it would take a considerable amount of time until it would give me any power. I have a lot of issues with the transmission but this was my biggest issue. Manual mode was really good in the second through fifth gear, I didn't really go any higher. Shifting into first gear had some very odd behavior.
Overall the car was not sporty enough for my liking. If they made an f sport with stiffer and lower springs, an active antiroll bar and had the sport plus mode kept you in a gear no higher than fifth. I think it would be a perfect blend of luxury/sport
Also the paddle button feel way too soft felling. They need to have a click like the LFA did. Even my GS has a nice little click to them

[Edit]: I took the lc500 out again and the transmission behaved much better than before. This model was a used 2018 lc with 17k miles on it, not a brand new 2021 model with delivery miles. My guess is since this car was mature that it was happier to jump into a lower gear. I did mash the pedal down past the detent and had some minor delay in downshifting but a lot less this time and more reasonable. Now I can comfortably say I'll be keeping my eye out for the right speced lc500

I have the same feeling on my 2018, so I manual for most time. I thought the issue is resolved for later models but clearly you have a different opinion

Maybe you should buy a LFA .

Thanks for your observation. I haven't driven one yet, but the LC500 was on my shopping list. What you stated about the 10 speed, I was also concerned about it having driven the 8-speed in other Lexus cars. The 8 speed was also sluggish and hunting gears, from a 40-50mph kick-down, it takes several seconds, sometimes feel forever waiting on the tranny to find the right gear. I guess the LC500 will mostly be a cruising car or the only time it shift right is from a stop to WOT full acceleration. Forget expecting it to take-off at highway speeds. (I will still go and test-drive the LC500 for myself but now my test drive will be mostly to disapprove my worst fear about this issue with the tranny).

I've been driving for a long time now, since 1955. Always manuals. 3 on the tree in the early years then 4 on the floor and so on. I even owned one of the few 5MT SC300s that were produced. My first automatic was my 2008 ISF. I learned to really like that transmission, but only if driven in Sport mode. In Normal mode it was pretty lethargic. I also really like the 10 speed in my LC. I've never tried Eco mode, and probably never will. IMHO Normal mode is really good even for aggressive driving. Sport mode is also good IMO, but wont shift above 8th. Sport+ is too aggressive for my driving style, and I tend to be an aggressive driver I seldom use Manual mode anymore because I find the shift logic pretty damn good.

I don't feel the hesitation you folks are experiencing. No, the 10 speed is not a dual clutch unit, but, again IMHO, it's pretty darn good

did you drive the car in sport or sport+ mode too?

also, maybe, since the car was new, it takes a bit to learn ones driving style? Yours sounds like "lead foot"

I was hoping it was have more of a raw driving feel as it's a "performance" car as their website suggested. After owning my GS f sport for 5 years now. The 6 speed auto in that car loves dropping gears and hate to say it feels more connected and fun to drive compared to the LC.
I was able to find an inspiration series structural blue model for sale and was about to pull the trigger but after feeling how disconnected the 2021 car felt, my hopes were crushed.
Ill have to wait for the LCF to come out and heard it was suppose to have a trans axel transmission but also it has been canceled...
We will see what the 2022 model year bring as that will be the 4th year for the LC and USUALLY Lexus will do a mid cycle refresh. I hope they don't put that tacked on touch screen in the interior tho. Not against putting a touch screen but they need to keep the sun visor on it.

Actually the 2021 model is the fourth production year for the LC

Haven't noticed delay in my 2020 LC. My 2015 RC F had some throttle hesitation. The LC transmission has surprised me a couple of times how quick it is in Sport or Sport + actually...and I've owned PDK's, so my expectations were not high for the LC 10 speed.

Hmm i don't know what it was about that car then. I remember vividly it would take a good second to even do start moving the needle. Maybe it was because it had no miles on the car and was on its break in period, not sure. Those that bought it brand new did you have this feeling?

Also thought there was slight delay in steering response too...

I really wanted to love this car but maybe I have too high expectations for it.
I'm not trying to talk bad about the car. Maybe the owners can tell me what I did wrong, but it was pretty simple.
Mash on the gas and expect a response. Touch the gas expect a response.

Another time I was going like 5 mph and had it in manual mode. Downshifted to 1st waited a good few seconds and when I gave it 20% throttle it felt super super jerky like it needed to downshift twice and then gave me some power.

maybe I'll need to spend a good day with it and see how it feels

Typing on tablet... sorry.

i echo the others this 10 speed is pretty quick on the shifts, damn close to dct for me.

dropping from 2nd to first yeah your asking for it. I might have tried but results were lack luster.
need to be in first .

the logic isn’t perfect but the shifts are very quick for me , if they weren’t I’d be back in a manual. Spacing truly sucks but it’s a gt car.
