Default My new 21' convertible and its first mod

Just want to say hello to all as I’ve been lurking here the past few months and learned a whole lot of useful tips from the members here.

I finally took the plunge and bought a 21’ LC 500, white on black w/red combo, convertible last month. This vehicle replaced an e93 BMW m3 and a Jaguar F-type R. Very happy with my purchase and looking forward to putting many, many miles on this vehicle.

Couldn’t help but did my first modification with blacking out the chrome on the exhaust areas. Will do an official photo shoot soon when things slow down a bit at work.

Nice! How did you black out that area?

I taped off the surrounding areas with painter tapes and plastic, then used peelable matte black paint (about 8 coats). I may have it actually painted or wrapped in gloss black at some points, but I'm liking the matte looks right now. Here are some close up shots in the day light.

Hey Petlizard, looks great. In my opinion it looks cleaner in black and balances out the rear. Good mod. Congrats on your new ride. “I may have to copy you.” lol.

I spend a few hours last night on my first. Hardwired and mounted my ESCORT radar to the rear view mirror.

Congrats again!

Around my area, a vinyl wrap job for that section would run between $200-$500. To have it painted, which would require removing the rear difusser, I would guest is between $600-$1,200.

Hi. I just bought the LC 'vert and will be hard-wiring my Valentine One G2 to the rear-view mirror. Can you share some info and tips? Did you buy a specific BlendMount? And, most importantly, how did you access power - i.e., any tips/instructions for the mirror tap? Many thanks!

Like your blue Raptor. I have a 2018 blue SCAB and a white LFA. Also in VA. Are you NOVA or south?

I’m interested in this too. Have done a power tap to mirror on three different vehicles but had good directions going in each time.

Here is what I purchased from Blendmount.com:
  • Aluminum Radar Detector Mount for Uniden R7, Standard 2001R Series, BR7-2001R, BR7-2001R_1
  • Power Cord, MTX Series, Patented, 15 inches long, RJ-11, 2 Amp Inline Fuse with Military Grade Taps, MTX-1015
Access the Vehicle Fit Guide at Blendmount.com to identify the correct mount and wire tap kit for your radar detector.

Disclaimer, wire tap at your own risk, the details provide below are what I used to successfully complete the task.

Read all documentation provided for the Mount and the Wire Tap kit.
Locate and unplug the plug to the mirror. It is under the smaller plastic cover to the left of the larger plastic cover.
Unplug with the plug tab facing down.
Locate the bottom left wire, the Red (power) tap will be inserted here.
Locate the wire just right to the Red tap, this is where the Black (ground) tap will be inserted
Finish the install per the Wire Tap kit instructions.
Re-Install the small plastic cover
Install the Blendmount to the mirror per the instructions provided.

For me, the radar detector powers on when the vehicle is started and shuts down when the vehicle is turned off.
Please feel free to ask any questions as I did not document the install process with any photographs.

Thanks! The wire tap always is the tricky, perilous part, but this will help. Much appreciated.

Hello, SUNLINE,
I'm in Norther VA, in between Fairfax and Prince Williams counties. How about you?
Looks like we have similar taste in cars, minus having an LFA on my end

Congrats! Love to see more of these in Virginia (we're in Arlington). Just picked up an older E46 convertible to play around with for now. How long did you have the E93?? Was tempted to go with one of those.

Hi there ! Those E46 are fun cars with the classic BMW design language. I had a love affair with the e9x M3 generation (had three of those car and loved them all). In many ways, the LC reminds me a whole lot of my e93 m3 with it's smooth and high revving engine, superb ride, great induction sounds, fast shifting gear box, and yes, it does carry a bit a weight, but that's ok for this

type of vehicle.
