Default Head unit upgrade for later model year?

Hi all,

I'm looking for a professional advice. I have a 2018 European LC 500. One major problem with that is that the CarPlay retrofit for pre-2020 LC 500s have never been released in Europe and probably never will.

I'm thinking about getting a 2021 LC 500 head unit and installing it to my 2018 model in the hope of getting factory CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Will this work?

That’s absurd!! Cheaper and easier to just buy a newer car.

FYI the dealership offered me to install a new head unit if I want, free of charge, because they sold me the car with the promise of a CarPlay retrofit. However they don't guarantee that this'll work.

Almost a silly question - but here goes my opinion . . . . . . . If it's free, let them do it. If you still don't get Apple CarPlay you are no worse off as. The dealer would know best if this would work or not. I's curious they would be willing to spend so much time and money for the swap out not knowing if it would be successful in getting CarPlay. My understanding is that the new head unit (from the 2021 MY - All areas including Europe) works just fine with Apple CarPlay.

If the dealer doesn’t know, ZERO chance anyone here would know???

It's a bit more complicated than that. They either try this, or install some aftermarket solution. But not both. I have to choose.

I just don't understand how the dealership you're working with has no clue. I mean, can't they call Lexus Corporate and get connected with one of their engineers?
