The video in the thread linked below (at 49:56) describes the second cup holder as, wait for it, a cup holder:

seen that thread. not helpful. also saw that video. don’t care what she says, that’s not a cup holder that works, otherwise this wouldn’t be a worth while problem to discuss. also, someone suggested that in the manual it specifically tells you not to place drinks in that compartment. i believe it’s there to store small objects such as keys, etc..,. but definitely not a cup holder one can rely on.

^^^^Works for me

I see you don't believe her, but you believe what someone said❓ But, that someone was right. That is what the manual says

I don't believe what she says, because I have tried to place a cup there. That is not a cup holder. I've been searching for a solution since the day I got the car. I read somewhere, but can't remember where. They showed screenshots of the manual.

anyway, I'm have a good enough solution for now using the gap filler. And I've also ordered this:
Amazon Amazon

It has a offset necessary to clear the HVAC area right above the cup holder. But it will be ugly. For d2d driving, my gap-filler cup will suffice, and I can keep this under the seat in the back, out of the way. But for longer trips, I can use this with bigger cups and frequent drive-throughs + larger / taller cans. But I need to see if it would actually work, and how stable it is. I'll receive it by Tuesday, and I'll test it out + post photos.

Same here for the most part, but I will use my gap-filler cup. I just returned 3 sets of cup holder ideas & phone holder possibiities, but I decided to scarp it. Returned it all today. This is interior is too purposeful and beautiful. Anything sticking out will just ruin it. It is what it is...
