That sound is the Hybrid V6. Very subdued as compare to the V8.

Speaking as a 500h owner, then I think the review was very fair, and I couldn't disagree with anything he said. Yes the engine sound is strange but coming from a Jag XE and XF where there was precious little soundtrack then even the hybrids melody provides some sense of occasion. I'd also add the gear change leaves a bit to be desired, but when driven with some intention the box(es) feel about right, whereas at slow speed I'm not so sure. One thing I do like is the ability to creep off the drive without making a sound, and taking people by surprise when I pull away without the soundtrack they were expecting. Fuel consumption is very good and with the cost of gas here in the UK then trust me it has to be a big, big plus point!
I'd also agree with his take on the interior colours and I, for one, am very glad mine is red leather. The original model I test drove was by comparison very dark, but in fairness would never have been a dealbreaker.
In due course and assuming nothing better comes along in the interim, then the convertible with a V8 will be on the agenda. I'm just fearful our beloved government will continue its anti car agenda and their process of forcing us to accept the cycling and pedestrian brigades can continue to claim the roads for their sole use.
