Is it the same wing as on the ‘24? (Hard to tell when comparing photos of it on a black one and photos on a white.) What kind of shape is the carbon in? It’s odd to me that the roof panel seems damaged but not the wing.

It’s likely that they’re manufactured in different batches, maybe even different vendors, but it’s very “un-Toyota-like” to have such a variance in material composition/quality for what should be the same finish on the same car. Interesting.

Why not the wing, too? Same material. To be frank, I think it’s worth the money to add PPF if only to the roof for the UV protection on the carbon fiber. Whenever the protection gets less effective, per the film manufacturer, just pull it off and put on fresh film. I’d imagine it’s cheaper than replacing the roof panel, and the look doesn’t start to fade until you decide to replace it.

PPF will not block UV. This was not what modern PPF designed to do. When the film first came out, it was UV filtered and when people remove the PPF after a few years, they noticed the color of the vehicle is much different where they have the film and where they didn’t. This is because the UV filtered film has protected the paint from fading. Now, all PPF are designed to let all UV through and we don’t have the color mismatched after removing the PPF.

Many films stopped using UV protection for exactly the reason you describe, but there are still films available with UV filtering for use if you wrap the whole car, or in this case want to protect one panel for some reason. You need to make sure that the installer is good enough to know not to use the same film that he uses when just doing the front bumper on a car.
My point was about that specific car. It has the carbon roof AND the carbon wing, but apparently only one got damaged. That’s odd for a Lexus. Even if a finish isn’t intended to be indestructible, it should degrade at the same rate as the same material on another part on the same car with the same finish getting the same exposure.
