I'm sorry, but IMO, you are interrupting it wrong. It states:
There is an OR in their recommendation. Believe what you wish, but in my mind newer technology is better. Just a question here - Where have you heard that synthetic oil may be detrimental for an ICE?

Those 'several Lexus dealerships' were wrong. Just saying.
Use what you wish. Conventional oil will not harm the engine and if you strictly follow a proper oil and filter change regimen your engine will last like a Lexus - but there are products out there that are better.
Also bear in mind, as Lou points out, oil technology evolves and oils get better. The fellow that strictly follows his 1957 Chevy's owner's manual recommendations is most certainly not doing his engine any favors (granted - extreme example)

So, it's obvious lexus wanted to use conventional and that is what they put in the LC, even though many of their other vehicles come with synthetic. Seems odd, but whatever.

For $89.95 and conventional oil per the service manual, I will continue to do what the factory suggests. Ya think they know best?

The mystery to me is why Lexus recommends conventional oil but no one at Lexus seems to have a valid reason why. I have heard that at break-in that synthetic oil is actually too slippery to allow the piston rings to seat properly. But why isn’t that true on all engines. Why just the V8. And why after break-in is over, does Lexus still recommend (service managers at my Lexus dealer and others I have heard about on here) conventional oil after break in?
I have no problem spending a bit more for synthetic on a $100,000 car every 5,000 miles. And the key as everyone has mentioned is not going over 5,000 miles before a change.

1. A V8 with a 7k redline would do better with a 30wt oil than a 20wt which is recommended for almost every other toyota engine.
2. Most other toyotas recommend 0w-20 which is only available in synthetic.
3. The LC 500 won't even let you redline the car until the oil is at a certain temperature, modern conventional 30wt oil at operating temperature is gonna protect as well as synthetic in almost all scenarios, you only see the benefits at really hot or cold operating temps or long drains. The driver with no track time and a 5000 mile oil change interval is putting very little stress on their oil--even if it's conventional
4. The LC500 has a 9.1qt sump! That is a large amount of oil for a 5L engine--more additives, harder to be starved of lubrication. Again, no sweat for a modern conventional in almost all scenarios. Especially considering most other lexus models probably take 5qts or less.
That being said, I change my own oil and filter and I use Quaker state Ultimate durability. It's a low cost synthetic option that is good when I do drive my LC in the winter and its cost is only about 2-3$ more than conventional for a 5qt jug. I can change my own oil and filter for about $58(not counting the money I spent on low profile ramps so that I can get under the car lol). I did the first oil change at 5k with conventional oil and switched after that. I'll agree its silly to spend 100K+ on a performance oriented car but put dino oil in it. However conventional oil is so good these days that my rational side knows that it won't make a difference for almost any driver at 9.1qts and 5000 mile interval.
