Default New Battery for the LC

There was another thread related to batteries but I thought it best to post a new thread for anyone who is interested or may search in the future. Wasting money is a hobby of mine but I just couldn’t see paying $1700 for a replacement battery. After exhaustive research I decided to go with an Optima yellow top DH7. DH6 and DH7 both fit but the DH7 more closely matches the dimensions of the OEM.

I am not a diy type of guy but replacing a battery is pretty easy. All it takes is a 10mm socket and about 15 minutes of time. After installation I held my breath and pressed the start button. It started but immediately shut off and displayed the message “Vehicle Charging Malfunction”. My heart stopped beating and I decided to try again. The engine turned right over and roared to life. I let it run for a few minutes and verified that my vehicle customization settings were all saved and much to my amazement they were. After a short joy ride I’m calling this a rousing success.

Good Job Put the cap over the negative terminal. And, it would be a good idea to spread some vaseline on top to the terminals.

haha, yeah $1700 for a car battery is ludicrous. is that what the local dealer there (hennessy?) wanted too?

well done. yeah i'm not much of a diy guy either but have done battery changes.

Speaking of batteries. I'm thinking of switching mine out. Do most of you wait until you start experiencing issues, or do you just change it after a certain period of time before having problems arise? I've had my LC now for about 5 years - so thinking it's about time to switch. Also, noticed some acid corrosion on the negative terminal....kinda odd.

Probably not THE answer you were looking for but...

During Amazon days they had these for $73, I got 1 for each car. I am pretty sure I'll get $73 worth of piece of mind from mine just being IN the car.

My LC will see the dealer at least once a year. Each time, I will ask for a load test on the battery. I will probably get one of the not $1700 replacements as soon as a load test shows any significant downturn of the original.

My battery isn’t something that I replace based on age. I don’t use a tender and I will stay with it until it generally fails to hold a charge.

I have about 3 of the portable jumpers. Although I also bought them on Amazon and were more around $50-$75 max. They are like gold when your battery dies. One thing a lot of people don't realize that if you park somewhere with limited access (some parking garages) and park head first in a spot its hard to get jumped by another vehicle. Or if no one is around you are toast.

I think these are similar to the car vacs. Most are the same 3 models made in China branded with several different brand names.
I did a fair amount of Googling. The Noco jumpers got consistently high reviews. They were also available from average size Jump A V8 models to Jump The Titanic sizes. Bruce in Fl
