Maybe a dumb question, but...is the LC 500 battery a standard FLA or is it a AGM or GEL battery? Have not been able to find a reference to this in my manuals.

^^^^ It's a Yuasa ENJ Series model 390LN4 flooded battery. When I replace, it will be the Optima AGM DH7 described earlier in this thread.

AGM batteries have a different charge profile from FLA batteries. If the car charging system is designed for FLA batteries, there could be an issue. Any concerns?

^^^^Nope - I ran a Bosch AGM Battery in my ISF with no issues. I also ran a NAPA AGM battery in my Silverado, I replaced it at seven years, not because I had to, but because I had never had a battery lasted that long And, I am in Super Hot Arizona that is tough on Batteries. I replaced the AGM in the truck with an Optima Yellow Top AGM H6. As far as charging goes, the alternator compensates.

Ok. Thanks for sharing your experience. I had a Ferrari with an AGM Interstate battery. It was 8 years old when I sold the car. After a full charge the battery would hold 12.8 Volts for days, and after a couple of weeks would get down to 12.6 volts and stay there for at least a month. That was the best battery I have ever owned. And Ferrari cars are notorious for draining a battery in a couple of weeks.

Default OBD Pig Tail

I use the Battery Tender OBDI Pigtail, easy it plugs in to the OBDI port under the dash and keep the battery charged.

Hook up the Smart Battery Tender, Lexus app. Pig tails attach to your battery in the trunk and you leave them attached till next time. 1 plug at the tender one plug at the wall. Done.

You plug your battery charger in to the OBDI port under the steeringwheel dash, charge from there instead of the trunk. Very simple, plug and play.

don't you have to leave the door open to get a cord from the obd port to power?

Nope, the cord is slim and the door shuts fine, no problem. This is my set up instead of going trough trunk or the engine compartment. I use the same in my IS and LX.

Where is this emergency trunk release? I can't find it for the life of me, and jump starting isn't working.

I talked on the phone to the service writer about this. He was wary of tapping into the mirror. He did say he had/has 5 Lexi and everyone has a detector or dash cam Hardwired Into the fuse box.
I spoke about this to the 15 yr Sr Tech who did my 20k mile service. No way Jose. Barely even interested in discussing the hard mount and Definitely Not the mirror tap. He said even the fuse box hard wire would require the personal ok of their Service Manager. Of course he's the same effin 15 yr tech who overfilled my oil too.
I'm in not that big of a hurry but this was not good news to me.

Charging Battery from under the hood works as intended for me....Just make sure that you find a good ground for the negative cabling. Any bolt attached to the body or hood shud work. If you are Jump starting using another battery, the process is almost same. No need to actually goto battery in trunk.
