Default What other fun cars have you owned before your LC 500?

New thread for some fun.

Back in 2008 I had a 1999 Ferrari F355 F1 Spider.

Owned her for 4 years and put 18,000 miles on her between living in OR, and then NE.

TdF Blu/Cuoio

FACT: The F355 was the very first vehicle available to the public with paddle shifters.

It was so much fun.

What fun cars have YOU owned before your LC? Let's see some pics!

Yep, that engine has to come out every 3-5 years to replace the timing belts.

The LC replaced my 2008 maserati granturismo. I remember distinctly i saw the concept drawings from pininfarina and i had to have it. I placed the order in dec 2007 and got it almost late 2008. I really wanted everything to be exactly the same as the concept so i ordered her in grigio silver w/ a red interior and red calipers to match.

She only had 44,000kms on it before i sold her and her most expensive service at the dealership cost me almost 18k but it was worth every minute. That ferrari v8 is the best sounding engine/exhaust ive ever owned and even the LC cant really compare (although the LC used the maserati GT as the baseline for their exhaust note during development).

Bad....Looks like you've been in the 'Richie Rich Club' for a while. Great writeup. --- No way, I would have ever want to see a repair bill like that. Hopefully we will never see one like that from Lexus.

The NSX was created to beat the 348. (First NSX was 1991), which it did on all levels.

The NSX forced Ferrari to up their game with their next car....and the F355 came out in 1995.

oh you wont, trust me. this LC will likely be as rock solid as my SC. speaking of which, the SC was my first true love. I remember seeing it in 2002 when i was still a senior in high school and touring my future college. This rich fru fru guy showed up in a white SC430 with his hot blonde girlfriend and i knew i had to have one (the car.. but i wouldn't mind his girlfriend either). I dont know what it was, the flowing lines, the weird proportions, the curves and huge bulbus bum.... i loved that thing. I kept looking at it over the years but lacked garage space.

didnt accomplish that dream till 2016 when i landed my first SC for only 10k Canadian. heheh i even wrote an article about it. Since then that silver one was written off and i replaced it with another SC430 in white.

I have always loved the SC430....Have always referred to her as 'The Lady'. I am 6'2" and have always felt like the car was a lil too tight for me. Most of the men that I would see pushing this ride, seemed to be small statured...As a previous/current owner, is it true that this interior was a lil tight?

I don’t think it is. It’s quite comfortable. I’m 6’2 and 240lb. I’m a pretty big guy. the dimensions are almost the same internally as the LC.

For a majority of us, the LC is/was probably our first real ‘fun car’. But I don’t feel bad about it. I’ve always liked nice cars like the GS, and LS and have had several models of each. But I’ve never really thot of them as ‘Fun Cars’. Other than the Olds Cutlass Supremes from the early 70’s and 80’s(which used to be the best selling cars in America) the LC is actually my first coupe. Took a while to get here financially, but it was well worth the wait.

My '21 LC500 convertible is the end of a "10 year plan" that started in 2012 to own something amazing.

Year 1-5: S2000

2006 Laguna Blue, paid $18K / 42K miles in 2012, sold for $21K / 52K miles in 2017. It was basically a fun savings account to finance car #2. Great car, best shifter ever, got respect from "car guys". Underpowered, but we all know that going in.

Year 5-9: NSX

2000 Monaco Blue Pearl (the rarest NSX color), paid $67K / 32K miles in 2017, sold on BringATrailer $154K / 39K miles in 2021. It was the 6th highest NSX on BaT at the time, but has been passed by a few cars since.

Now some of you might say ^^^ that's the pinnacle. Where the S2000 got a nod of respect from "car guys", the NSX got much larger reactions from many more people. The joke I tell S2000 guys when they ask about the NSX is that "it's all the torque you wish your S2000 had for 4 times the price".

The truth is that the car was so valuable / rare that I was genuinely scared of something happening to it. No track days, short bursts of fun driving but never really pushed it. I legitimately didn't go places sometimes because I didn't want to put miles on the car.

Needless to say, the auction price for the NSX allowed me to easily afford the car at the end of the 10 year plan. I was on the fence: NSX or LC500. I waited for Acura to announce a targa / spyder NSX, the original was a coupe for 4 years before the convertible so it was just a matter of time. But it never happened. And the LC500 added a drop-top, so the choice was made.

Year 10 / the goal: LC500 Convertible

I can't overstate how much I love this car. I wish the blue was a bit lighter / brighter, and I wish the interior wasn't ALL BROWN, but everything else about it is amazing. The looks, the sound, the split personality of comfy cruiser vs wake the neighbors.

Also, the future collectability odds are off the charts. Low / limited production, concept car looks, low ownership costs? Yes, you'll be able to buy some of these for ~$60-70K one day. Then you won't. And people will wonder why they didn't buy more of them when they were attainable.

great write up J, and im very happy for you that you've made all the right moves when it comes to your car purchases. I lost my shirt on basically every single car ive owned so kudos to you man.

As you said, the LC has a great potential to be a future collectable. Here's to our cars and to us being around long enough to reap the rewards of "appreciation".
