Default New Member Question Re: Warranty

I just bought a 2018 LC with 1,458 miles. It was a corporate car that was rarely used. Dealer is offering a 7 year bumper bumperextended warranty for $2800. I have a winter vehicle, and will only drive the LC about 3,000 miles per summer, Do these cars need a warranty? Or are they so reliable that it would be a waste of money? Would very much appreciate your thoughts. What have repairs been like for your Lcs? Thanks!!

I have been buying new cars since 1962 and I have never bought an extended warranty. Never needed too. I self insure. I also modify my vehicles.

I'd say no if you're driving 3k miles per year.

My 2018 came with a 8yr warranty because I had an ECU issue at delivery. Todate only 7700 miles and never a warranty claim filed. $2700 on a car you plan to drive only 3k miles a year is not bad as you are already past the basic manufacturer's warranty coverage period. You shouldn't need it but if you ever do, you'd have nothing to worry about. You got an excellent price on your LC, consider the added coverage an investment in your peace of mind.

Default Thank you

Thanks to everone for your opinions. I think I am going to pass on the warranty. I had one on my SL 5oo with auto leveling system and never used warranty. Lexus should be much more reliable than Mercedes

I have never bought an extended warranty. Statistically you lose. I self insure. IMO if you can’t self insure you shouldn’t buy it. I’m sure some will strongly disagree but I stand by my comment.

There are at least 2 dealers that give the best warranty deals. One is in Ann Arbor, MI. I have purchased 2 10/100 Platinum warranties from them. Bumper to bumper, loaner car, road service, etc. For my '18 LC it was $3300. Your quote sounds fair to me.
Even if I keep the car 5-6 years and Don't have any work done, the piece of mind knowing that the very pricey parts Are covered if need be, is worth $3300 to me.

I also bought the Platinum warranty that covers me till 2032, I avg 5500mi. per year, goes away for winter so will get the full 10yrs B4 the miles come due.. I paid 3785.00. 378.00 per yr worth it to me as 1 issue could run a few $$. Parts and labor do not decrease in price as the yrs move on.

They say a sucker is born every minute, not you of course. The most dependable cars on the roads do not need a long term warranty. The warranty companies are underwritten by large insurance companies that are making a killing on the car warranty business. I know, I worked for one of the largest insurance companies on the planet and they underwrote LOTS of car warranties.

What would a $4K investment look like in 10 years. A lot more than any repairs for a vehicle with only 50K miles on it.

Depends on the bank for sure.

In a traditional bank that doesn’t pay much interest like BofA (currently .004 for higher tier members) $4,001.60

in a higher interest online bank like Ally or similar (currently 2.25%). $4,996.81

Sorry a bit off topic but a hot button of mine. Don’t be complacent and let all your fluid funds sit in a traditional low interest bank. They have their value but gaining interest isn’t one of them

Ally's customer service is between inept and nonexistent.
It took a 30 min, 3 call forwards call for them to fix a wrong address. I hung up Still Not Sure it was corrected.
I'd be very careful with ANY "Bank" that doesn't have an actual branch within 100 miles of you.

No issues here with them or capital one at all. Most everything has been done easily in self service. I’ve had far worse service with BofA and other locally.

Recognize I’m taking this further off topic, let’s get back to the warranty content
