Default SC400 Nak system Stopped working

- 1992 SC400
- Stereo was working fine last night, never had a problem with the stereo before
- Got in the car this morning and Stereo powers up fine, I can change cd's it shows the CD/Tape or FM as playing.
- If I turn the volume up all the way I can hear the music but at a very low/faint volume out of every single speaker, including sub (so all speakers appear to be working fine)
- I use to have an LS400 with factory cell phone option. When the Cell phone was in use the stereo would mute but you could still hear it faintly in the background (kinda like i'm hearing now, only the SC400 doesn't have the cell phone option)
- I've tested the speakers they are not blown (most of the speakers are fairly new) 2 - months old
- Does the stereo have a mute option I don't know about it?
- Is there anyway it could be a fuse?
- Does anyone else have any other suggestions?
- My guess is either a mute option or the AMP is not working properly?
- I have an aftermarket car alarm (this wouldn't affect stereo?)

More info:

I just went for a drive, I went over a bump and the stereo cut back in.. Few minutes later went over another bump and it cut back out again and so on. This would lead me to believe there is a crossed wire somewhere? does this make sense? if so where should I start my search?

first try tomakesure the amp connectors are plugged inwell .ifso then unplug your amp connectors and spray them with wd40 or similar.then if it worksmakesure no water is getting in the trunk from the trunk lip gasket or right tailite gasket.

its in the trunk under the cd changer. you will have to remove the changer first. vist carstereohelp.com and it shows how to remove the changer.

Alright, i've got a few more pieces of info to add.

- It appears if I let the car sit for a while and then the stereo works fine again
- if I turn the car on, stereo works for the first few minutes and then cuts out.
- As I go over bumps it cuts in and out still.
- I cleaned the amp connectors. (does the amp just power sub or all speakers)

Any other suggestions?

Did it rain before the stereo quit working? From the research i've found- our cars have a terrible drainage system that uses rubber hoses to drain water from various places including the sunroof, etc that often get clogged and let the water go everywhere. If this is the case, you could have moisture in one of your stock amps (most likely the one under the cd changer) When the car sits, it dries, but when you move, more water comes in. Take out the lower portion of your back seat, check for water, and do the same under the amp under the cd changer. also check the harness connections as they are exposed to the moisture also.
Hope this helps.

I have a similar problem. But mine has no sound at all. So, did you get your amp to work again?
