JL Audio 10W3 v2 sub in a GS400?
What do you guys think of this sub to replace my stock sub (99 GS400 with Nakamichi stereo)? (Is it a good sub?) I bought it used from a coworker who is very much into Car Audio and seems to know his stuff.
JL Audio 10W3 V2
The 10W3v2 is a superb choice for high-output, high-quality sub-bass in compact enclosures. Exceptional excursion capability and highly linear motor and suspension designs combine to deliver maximum performance from moderate to high power levels. This driver works well in sealed, ported and bandpass enclosures and its dual voice coil design gives the user a high degree of application flexibility.
Nominal Diameter: 10 inches (250 mm)
Continuous Power Handling: 300 Watts
Voice Coil: 2.25" diameter, 4-layer, Kapton former
Available Configurations: Dual 2 ohm, Dual 4 ohm or Dual 6 ohm
Xmax (one-way, linear): 0.51"-0.58" (13.0-14.7 mm) depending on specific model
Sealed Enclosure Range: 0.60-0.90 cu.ft. (17.0-25.5 liters)
Ported Enclosure Range: 1.00-1.50 cu.ft. (28.3-42.0 liters)
VRC™ Technology: YES
Elevated Frame Technology: YES
I realize I would get better sound if I disconnect the OEM sub and get a dedicated mono amp to power this right? Recomendations on amp please?

JL is great if you are a real stickler for exact sound, but if you want, i have some subs i have for sale that will sound wonderful with the stock system. I have 2 12's and a 1200 watt amp in a custom box in the trunk ported through the back window. I have 2 new 12's and a new 1200 watt amp if you want it. The thread is in the marketplace section or you can e-mail me at Viper1918@sbcglobal.net or you can PM me.

Ok good, ya that will sound nice. I have a 210w3v2 box in my trunk. It actually looks phat too because it fits perfectly on that little shelf in our trunks. Get the 250/1 to run it it will sound great.

i just put in (3) 10" JLw6V2's and a JL 1000/1 Amp
not close to bein done either, still got the door speakers and tv's. What do you guys think of this idea, i can move that box up a little more which will open space behind it, i wanna put a 12" or 13" sub behind there for lower bass, stupid or what?

Hope your trunk latch is tight.
Too many woofers can be bad if not correctly placed. You may wind up with bass cancellations at certain frequencies, so it may wind up sounding crappy if you add another woofer. You're gonna have enough of a hard time eliminating rattles from the bass that you have with that system firing rearwards.

Hameed,
I've got that sub in my GS if you remember listening to it at tail of the dragon meet. At the time I had less power (only 100 watts) than I do now - and less than you'll have. Replaced the Alpine 5 channel amp with a JL 500/5 (250 to sub).
It's a nice SQ sub IMO - not too boomy. I sometimes wish it went a little lower in the sound range, but most of the time it's just fine. Make sure the box is built to the specs JL recommends for it.
