Default question on replacing rear sub woofer

Hey folks im sure this question has been asked time and time again, and until I can master the art of using the right keywords in the search feature i will forever be in debt to those who are willing to help the newbs. anyways, i have a 01 gs430...and i have the ML system, I would like to change out the rear sub and put a better one in...(if anyone has suggestions on what type of sub would be perfect for the replacement please do list) also...would I have to change the stock amp or should I upgrade to a better one? thanks in advance for any info ....

Aren't you happy with the ML system?

10" free-air sub. Most GS owners was swapping out the stock sub to JL Audio 10ib4 model....but its been discontinued for a year now.

I'm not an audio expert by any means, but couldn't you just tap into the speaker-level outputs to the subwoofer, and by using an adapter to convert that signal to a line-level output so that you can feed it to an external amp to power an additional subwoofer box (tuned for low end bass or using an eq to filter out frequencies so that it matches your ML stereo's sub so the music does not sound overboosted w/ bass? ). Just a thought. . .
